Ok well, rather than group everything together in 121’s thread which is beginning to become flames, I’ll just start a new one.
Heheh, I didnt realize that all the NY teams were from Islip or ended in “1,” heheh. Too busy driving and organizing and everything else…
Anyway, as a rookie team at only their second competition ever, we did excellent!! We placed 11 out of 36 teams, which allowed us to pick alliance partners. After everything was done, we were the 8th seeded alliance with teams 177 and 562 on our side. In the eighth finals, we won 2 of the 3 games played, advancing to the quarter finals. However we were up against 173’s alliance, who’s team played some great defense and kept us (and our tether) out of our robot zone. We lost both games there, but still, making it into the quarter finals is a great accomplishment for a first year team.
And we were definitely noticed, both by the judges and other teams. The judges were again thoroughly impressed with our bot and teamwork and what we could get done in the pits and out on the field, and awarded us a “General Staff Award” which they gave to us as being the “Rookie All-Star.” And many other teams came over to us and told us that we were the best rookie team that they had ever seen, some in over eight years. And many considered us much more of a competitor than many of the veteran teams out there, and you all know that BattleCry is composed of some of the best teams out there, so that is definitely a great accomplishment.
All in all, it was a great event, and even though I will be leaving 871 next year and moving onto team 190 I feel that 871 should be a force to be reckoned with in future years.
Well, before I forget, I guess I should thank our alliance partners.
Both of you guys (177 and 562) were great teammates. We tried a few different strategies, and some worked, and some didnt. But all in all, we did excellent against a great group of robots. Thanks a lot!!
Oh yea, and the only real downside to the whole day was when team 42 (I think), with less than 10 seconds left, decided to go to our tape measure and do 360s at top speed on top of it. It almost ripped the tape right out, along with our turret. It definitely wasnt a show of gracious professionalsim, and you actually lost more points for yourselves, winning 30-13 instead of 30-23. Anyway, I hope that isnt the reason that they won the “People’s Choice” for best defensive team.
But to everyone else and especially our alliance partners, THANK YOU for making the day a success and loads of fun!!
ithought that that was a very cheap shot and then after did you hear everyone booing them. i mean come onthe goal is not to destroy the others robots but to show gracious professionalism and that was truly not a nice thing to do but i really liked your tether sytem
To really give thanks to where it belongs, WernerNYK is the reason for team 871’s success.
He was a constant fire beneath all the team members and mentors. His organized the team so it ran like a well oiled machine. Both myself and the other mentors constantly relied on his help for critical decisions.
Not to mention all the planning, desiging, video editing he performed for the team. It will be difficult to keep the team at its best without his help. He is a true leader and will be a great assest to 190 in the future. But don’t forget your roots
We were partnered with 871 right off the bat, and I have to agree you guys had a great rookie team. Great robot, great team members, and the right attitude towards the game. We started with a bang winning 45-41 and between the two of us controlled all but 1 ball and 1 tether scored.
Great job 871- hopefully year #2 is as good as the first!
Thanks! It was a great confidence booster to work with 190 and pull off a great 1st match.
We sure hope to do our best next year. We can’t wait for the 2003 Season to kickoff. BattleCry 3 was a great way to end the year, I’m hoping to end every year with a BattleCry competition from now on.
Except next year I’d like to see “871” in the finals
Yep, I have to agree with B. Werner WAS 871. He did so much for us this year and is definitely gonna leave a huge hole to fill next year. But as far as BattlyCry, what an event! That was crazy. We came close. We had evrythin:
871(goal grabber with power w/ dual tether)
177( awesome ball getter with speed and good drivers)
562(2 goal grabber with power as well)
We couldve dethroned 173’s alliance but i have to admit they were really good, its a shame that u tipped over tho.
The only low point i saw was when i stood there and watched as team 42 entangled themselves into our tether and almost destroyed it. Excuse my french but A-HOLES.
Okay but either way good jop by all and cant wait for next year at BattleCry IV.
Werner ill try to fill ur shoes and keep 871 a force for the future.
We’ll just have to beat u and 190.
O yea and B, dont worry ive got it taken care of, We’ll be in the finals with my drivin
I was the adult mentor from 562 at BattleCry. The finals were a lot of fun, even though we made it to “only” the quarter finals! 871, you built a great robot and your drivers did a nice job pinning the goal! I didn’t see you lose it once. If 173 and 237 weren’t quite as dominant as they were, I think our alliance could have easily been in the finals. Hope to see you again next year.
