Those who do not make the initial 48 will be placed on the Ready Reserves. EVERY YEAR we end up calling almost every team on the Ready Reserves looking for folks to play, especially for last minute drop-outs, so don’t hesitate to register even if the 48 slots are full and expect that you will be called up.
To register, go to www.wpi.edu/+bc at 0800 on 4-Apr and click “Enter the Fray”.
We didn’t make the 48. How likely do you think it’ll be that we will be asked to fill in if we’re about 10th on the Ready Reserves list? We’re in CT so we would need to make logistics arrangements. I can’t believe it filled so fast!
Yes, it surprised us how quickly it filled up as well! The 48th team’s time stamp was 08:02:13.866450 AM!
I’d say your chances are pretty high being 10th on the list, but it isn’t likely to happen until after the payment deadline has passed (which I believe is prior to CMP, I need to double-check).
After a 4 year hiatus, the UberBots will once again be attending Battlecry (we last went in 2007). I’m really excited for this, and I’ve herd some great things about the event.
Any game modifications planned? There are some neat ideas floating in the IRI thread. Last year’s dot was simple and fun. My favorite modification so far is the introduction of the “moneyball.”
We’ve been looking at that ready reserve list to see what we could do… all teams this year should expect to have a survey about potential expansion once we are in the new sports and rec center (while we can handle more teams, it would mean making the event longer). No changes in the number of teams for BC13.
As for game changes, our policy at BC is to try to make game changes to improve the game based on what team’s had issues with during the season. We try never to change the game to give certain styles of robots larger advantages (for example, bonus points that could only be scored by shooting robots). We are happy to hear suggestions from teams… email [email protected] with any ideas!
We are looking forward to the event! We always welcome volunteers from all over…off-seasons are a great place to get your feet wet in a new position in preparation for regional tournaments. Sign up here: www.tinyurl.com/bc13vols
I would love to see a yellow dot placed on the coopertition bridge during eliminations worth 10 points.
My only pet peeve about this years game was that it felt like there were never enough balls on the field when the games were tough. In low scoring matches where most of the robots can’t shoot there are balls a plenty on the field but once eliminations hit or you are against two really good robots you’d be lucky to have a few on your side.
Adding two- four more balls to the field could make a huge difference!
