Good Morning Teams,
A number of important Email Blasts have been sent to team main and alternate contacts in the past week. Dean sent a message about the second generation e-watt saver bulbs, and PTC gave teams access to the software they have donated for the 2012 season. If you haven’t seen these emails, remember you can find all Email Blasts, Rookie Alerts and Blog posts on the FRC Team Email Blast Archive page of our website.
Also new on the website, the Regional Event detail pages (click on the event name to open the detail page) now include hotel information.
And in case you missed it, Jon Dudas, the President of FIRST was featured as a guest blogger on the innovate-educate blog.
FRC staff (and a few key volunteers) spent this past weekend at Dean’s house filming segments of the Kickoff for the January 7th broadcast. Dean was very gracious and moved his helicopter so we could fit a full competition field in his hanger. (Some people have garages, some people have hangers.)
Set up started on Friday (it takes a lot to construct a full field) and filming took up most of Saturday and a little time on Sunday. We filmed a segment on the Kit of Parts featuring Kate and Collin, several members of the GDC recorded segments about the game on the field and I delivered my remarks in Dean’s front lobby standing in front of his two story steam engine. A few people will be filmed off site, and Dean has yet to add his remarks, but we have a great deal of the tape we need for the Kickoff broadcast in the can. The production company will work their magic over the next few weeks and we’ll have a Kickoff broadcast ready to go on the 7th no matter what the weather throws at us in January.
31 days until Kickoff
See you then!
I figured out the title. We’re going to have to wrap our robots in something like clear plastic.
Holy cow, it must mean Bag and Tag!

Reason number 931 that Dean is a very cool guy.

Poo! I hope it comes with instructions.

Shiny, will make a point to read it. For those of you who havent had a chance, I highly recommend speaking with Mr Dudas, he is an absolute blast to talk to.
I noticed that some of the blogs have had something to do with hardship over terrain. Like in his latest blog he stated: “we’ll have a Kickoff broadcast ready to go on the 7th no matter what the weather throws at us in January.” Before one of his blogs titled “Over the river and through the woods” and in another blog (I dont remember which one) it stated something about being ready for any hardships that come your way. Just some food for thought.
Ill reiterate what I said in my twitter response…
“Its like kick off and an episode of “MTV Cribs” in one”
I know some people have mentioned the Titantic but what about the expedition to the South Pole? Not sure what game could come of it, but another possibility…
I don’t want to scare anyone but:
South pole=ice=slippery=…**REGOLITH  **
I’ve got it! I ran an anagram solver on the words in italics in his post, and i found:
abalone mast prism tilt
Obviously this is a game hint.
Abalone’s are sea snails
Mast relates to a ship
Prism is like the tetra year
Tilt could be like the seesaw in FTC.
Water Game + Triple Play + Get Over It?
Lunacy with a bumpy terrain?! :ahh: I think I’m going to go sit in a corner in the fetal position and rock myself back and forth. It’s gonna be OK Andrew…It’s gonna be OK Andrew…It’s gonna be OK…
OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD WE’RE GONNA DIE!
Also kinda refers to the titanic.
Hmm…sea snails, on a tilted mast? Titanic…WATER GAME
Prisms are the game pieces :yikes:
No! SEA SNAILS are the game pieces!
The all-caps reminded me of a game manual. “…the SEA SNAIL blah blah…”
Does anyone else think it’s significant that he specifically said that Dean’s steam engine was two stories? Other than showing that Dean has some crazy cool things in his house, it could mean that we have to score/operate on two levels…
2 stories = 2 plots = 2 pieces of land = 2 large alliance zones
So, none of this Breakaway 3-zone silliness.
The visible portion is “only” two stories tall, but there’s some serious support structure in the basement to keep it from breaking through the floor. Keep that in mind if you’re looking for game hints.
Better yet, I hope it comes with full assembly drawings with relevant dimensions, rather than having to add everything up from obscure dimensions at the part level across a dozen different sheets.
Psssssht. You’re silly. That’s just asking for too much.
Psh, I don’t even need all that.
Just give me a 100% accurate 3D model of the field (.stp is acceptable) and I’ll be as happy as a robot kid can be.
