BC18: Registration open 12-Apr @ 1200

Teams-

Registration is opening soon for BattleCry@WPI 18!

Here’s the details:

  • BattleCry@WPI 18 with take place over TWO full days on Sat-Sun, 20-21 May 2017 in Worcester, MA.
  • 60 teams
  • $400 registration gets you t-shirts, team social, BBQ dinner, Ice Cream Social, and Lunches (one day). And most importantly, the chance to try one more time to reign supreme in New England (and beyond).

Tell your friends, tell your rivals, tell your neighboring rookie teams… we welcome and encourage everyone who is interested to sign up! While 2013 broke records with 1 second to fill registration, last year took a little longer but by the week of the event, we ended up extending invites to our entire Ready Reserve list!

Those who do not make the initial team list will be placed on the Ready Reserves. EVERY YEAR we end up calling almost every team on the Ready Reserves looking for folks to play, especially for last minute drop-outs, so don’t hesitate to register even if the slots are full and expect that you will be called up.

When it opens, to register, go to www.wpi.edu/+bc and click “Enter the Fray”.

If you are interested in volunteering, we’d love to have your help as well! Steve has posted that link in a separate thread.

See you at BC18!

Hope to be there! BattleCry was awesome last year.

Looking forward to another great Battlecry event!

1729 is registered!

As of 12:05, we are full at 60 teams with the Ready Reserve list started. As we’ve said before, in the past years we’ve gone very deep into the Ready Reserves list… so sign up and you are likely to get into the event!

  • = 18 of 18 BattleCry@WPI for these teams!

The rule changes have been posted!

We have high hopes that we’ll see teams flourish under these modifications.

Also, I’m still looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles. Sign up using the custom, definitely-not-wholesale-copied-from-last-year-with-minor-changes-to-reflect-dates form here!

I made this list last year, so I thought I’d post the updated list. It’s hard to put this together from a single source, since the BC history and Blue Alliance had holes in their data, but here are the past victors of BattleCry:

2000: 190, 173, 42
2001: 177, 175, 121
2002: 190, 121, 311
2003: 166, 69, 1100
2004: 181, 177 (2 v 2)
2005: 40, 121, 596
2006:177, 176, 839
2007: 1153, 1685, 271
2008: 40, 121, 1474
2009: 172, 121, 40
2010: 40, 78, 1729
2011: 1073, 1519, 238
2012: 1519, 2168, 125
2013: 663, 3467, 195
2014: 4048, 2168, 3719
2015: 2067, 2168, 4564
2016: 195, 2791, 501

I lament the fact that 1519 will be missing again (Sunday competition). Mayhem is one of my favorite teams in FRC.

Rewritten to show number of wins per team number

5 wins: 121
4 wins: 40
3 wins: 177, 2168
2 wins: 190, 195, 1519
1 win: 42, 69, 78, 125, 166, 172, 173, 175, 176, 181, 238, 271, 311, 501, 596, 663, 839, 1073, 1100, 1153, 1474, 1685, 1729, 2067, 2791, 3467, 3719, 4048, 4564

1073 is looking forwards to BattleCry! Can’t wait for another amazing event!

1073 going to battlecry!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Not really a fan of the eighth finals (and wasn’t a fan last year either) because it takes away from lower seeded alliance having a chance with a defensive strategy. Basically if you can’t get 4 rotors and some fuel and get all of your climbs, you probably can’t move on to quarterfinals. What was always so cool about the giant Battlecry bracket when I was a student is you would see alliances come out from lower seeds with defensive strategies prevail.

Nonetheless I will still love Battlecry, it’s easily my favorite event every year.

YES!!! i Agree 100% in 2012 we came from 12 seed with 1058 and 175 to be finalist, and in 2014 we went from 20th seed to semi finals beating number 2 seed, with 188, 2648. good times

1058 is excited but a few of us have some other news for one of the activities at the social on Saturday night.

Brandon, Jay, Emile, and myself will be running a Catalyst tournament.

WHAT:
**
Catalyst@WPI

Back in 2012 & 2013, FIRST worked with DBS to develop simulators for that year’s challenge. The 2012 game Rebound Rumble was the first and later released on Xbox Marketplace for $2.99 as a 2v2 game. Every so often we arrange it as a fun team activity in the summer to run a mock tournament and this year we are bringing it to the WPI social.

WHEN:

7PM-third floor of the Campus Center

TOURNAMENT:

Alliances will sign up as a group of two people. Come as a group or come alone and we’ll help find you a partner.

As teams sign up, you’ll be assigned an alliance number and a division (Archimedes, Curie, Galileo, or Newton). Each division will have five alliances who will face off in a round robin tournament against each other (five matches each) and the top two alliances will face each best two of three (or single match time permitting). We’ll run two divisions (one on each console) until a winner comes out and start the next two divisions afterwards (approx. 7:40pm). Once we have four winners we’ll condense to one console to play semis and finals until we have one winner and open up the other console for free play so stick around! Winners will receive a BC shirt and winning alliances get some bags of sugar so its a win win!

To keep the game moving quickly so we can open the game up to more players, each alliance will use two pre-determined robots each match. You can decide which player uses which robot and which robot moves during the autonomous period. Controllers will be labelled so you know which is which.

Robots:

Option 1: Tank

  • Drivetrain - 8 Wheel Skid *can cross the barrier in the middle of the field
  • Hopper - Layup
  • Turret - Long Range 4
  • Bridge Lowerer - Bar

Option 2

  • Drivetrain - Mecanum
  • Hopper - Tall Shooter *receives from the human player station
  • Turret - Long Range 4
  • Bridge Lowerer - Bar

Both of these robots are easy to use and the game is easy to pickup on so anyone can play!

RULES:

Rebound Rumble Rules/Penalties apply:

  • Don’t touch an opponent in their Key (semi circular zone the robots start on) 3pt penalty
  • Don’t touch an opponent in their Loading Lane (zone marked from their bridge to their human player station) 3pt penalty
  • Don’t touch an opposing bridge 9pt penalty

These penalties are counted automatically in the game and we’ll observe for larger ones such as pinning or physical contact. Just play and have fun!

The Co-Op bridge (white bridge in the center) does not receive any rank or point bonus if you balance on it at the end of a match. Round Robin matches are ranked similar to Einstein WLT/RS.

The only game rule is robots can’t start moving or shooting in autonomous until the timer displays** 13 seconds **.

If you have any questions feel free to message either of us between now and Saturday or feel free to find us in person for more information! Definitely check the game out on the Xbox Marketplace if you have time!

I’m so hype for the Catalyst tournament! Very well constructed ruleset as well.

We’ve had plenty of practice running these so we’ve been able to modify the rules each time. We have it down to a pretty smooth operation by now, although this will be the first time with such a large group.

BC18 is just around the corner and it’s gonna be huuuge!

We are excited to have 58 teams from all over New England and New York join us for this annual event.

We will be broadcasting on https://www.twitch.tv/nefirst_blueall day Saturday and Sunday for those of you not in the Worcester area. If you are nearby, please stop in or even volunteer!

Pit map can be found here.

All other info including schedule and rule changes can be found at wpi.edu/+bc

See you this weekend!
BC18 Planning Committee

Really hope to see 5687 come off the ready reserve list!

Thanks for that! Sadly we have a conflict that day, so it looks like we won’t be able to make it anyhow. We would really have liked to participate–BattleCry has quite a reputation!

Tony will be busy raising money to cover our unexpected trip to St. Louis!

We do look forward to seeing folks at Mayhem in Merrimack, Beantown Blitz, Summer Heat, and Apple Town SmackDown.

Anyone at the event, can you get this fixed plz?:ahh: :ahh: :ahh:

Also, there’s a terrible humming noise in audio feed, but assuming you’re already aware of that.
