Beantown Blitz 2015

Hey Everyone!

The date for Beantown Blitz 2015 has been locked in for June 20th!

It is important to note that there is a major change to this year’s Blitz.
We are changing the venue for the Beantown Blitz away from Northeastern University and Matthews’ Arena.

This year’s Beantown Blitz will be held at Revere High School!
Revere High
101 School St, Revere, MA 02151

We will still deliver as fantastic an off-season experience as the Beantown Blitz has been at Northeastern. The Revere High venue has ample space, plenty of (free) parking and will be an excellent venue for this new event. The new venue is only a 15 minute drive from Matthews’ Arena (the old venue). This move will allow us to deliver a still amazing, yet different experience than the Northeastern University District Event. We are excited to share this new venue with the FIRST community!

We will have 36 spots available for the Blitz, and keep many of the same traditions. Numerous qualification matches (minimum 6, usually 7 or 8), a Mentor Match lunchtime tournament, full elimination bracket and probably even a few ‘golden’ touches to the game.

Event registration will be $250.

Teams can signup by emailing beantownblitz@gmail.com

Volunteers can signup by emailing as well!

Here’s the summary:
When: June 20th, 2015
Where: Revere High School- 101 School St, Revere, MA 02151
Registration: $250, email beantownblitz@gmail.com

Plenty of more information will be coming out in the next few days. Expect to see the info in this thread, through email blasts, up on the Beantown Blitz website and throughout social media. We will make sure all of the logistical changes from previous Blitzes are clearly explained and outlined to ensure you have a painless transition to the new venue!

On behalf of the NUTRONs and the Beantown Blitz Committee- Welcome to the NEW Beantown Blitz, we’re looking forward to seeing our old friends and hopefully plenty of new ones too!

Team 1511 is really excited to attend Beantown Blitz again! Our team just registered last night. For anyone considering attending, this is always a great event. The volunteers are professional, the teams are great, and the competition is always interesting.

Just as a curiosity, is there an official team list? I’d love to know who will be attending this year.

Thanks for the kind words!

We will publish a team list this weekend after we have collected a few more registrations.

We’re missing one.

We’re excited to announce the Beantown Blitz Student Judging Panel!

One student from each team is able to be a part of the Beantown Blitz judging panel, lead by two NE FIRST Judge Advisors! Each attending team may nominate one student as a Judge, to do so please email BeantownBlitz@gmail.com with their name.

The goal is to introduce students to the judging process. As such we will be walking them through deciding 4 awards: 2 Technical and 2 Team Attribute. The awards we will be giving out will be roughly based on the FRC awards for Creativity, Engineering Excellence, Team Spirit, and Gracious Professionalism.

We’re very excited about this opportunity for students and teams! We hope they gain some insight in how the judging process works and apply their new knowledge to the 2016 season!

Judges’ Schedule:
745 - Report to judges room for quick training
815 - Attend Opening Ceremonies
830 - 1145 - Pit interviews
1145 - 1230 - Deliberations
1230 - 1300 - Lunch
1300 - 1445 - Script Writing
1445 - 1500 - Watch Alliance Selections
1500 - 1800 - Watch Eliminations/Award Ceremony

Love this idea! FRC judging is an aspect of competitions which can be hard for many teams to get a “behind the scenes” perspective on, and this seems like a great way to do it. Is this opportunity open to teams that are not competing, but who are providing volunteers?

To be honest, it’s a question I hadn’t considered. I don’t see a reason not to. Let’s go with yes provided there’s space. I think 22 student judges is about the most we can comfortably handle.

Super hyped for Beantown. I can’t wait to see everyone there!

Excited to see all the NE teams compete again, and to get to see 125 in action before they’re off to IRI. See you all there!
