We have never used bushings, opting for bearings instead. Are there guidelines on when bushings are a valid option? Can they be used in high RPM situations? Does hex shaft degrade when spinning in bushings over time? What we’re really wondering is can we use them for an intake or a shooter.
Thanks
Bearings all the way, especially with high speed, high RPM situations. Bushing are great for low speeds - high load, and sliding. Don’t use a bushing for an intake or shooter. It will cause you problems down the road.
The place you’re most likely to use a bushing (most likely bronze depending on load) would be something like a pivot point for an arm or intake, but even then we typically prefer bearings unless we’re really trying to save space. If it’s for hex I don’t advise you use any bushings, but if you must it should be the rounded hex.
Exactly. If you’re using a dead axle and rotating an arm, then bushings are great at taking the relatively large load. But any time you’re working with high RPM, you want bearings, and that is definitely what you have with a shooter of intake.
