Belt Driven Drivetrains

Has anyone here done a belt driven drive train im looking to use a pulley and a variable pully to create a dynamic drive system. Like a snowmobile works with a belt. what parts / suppliers did you use and do you have any pictures?

What pros / cons do you have for it ? any issues durring the season?

Thankyou very much?

It sounds like you’re trying to make a Continuously Variable Transmission. There have been several thread recently about them, including:

we (1529) are considering a belt driven robot
so far we have no “GOOD” Idea about tolerances or any other “inportant” aspects related to the belt system
so… i guess im saying
WE need help too!!

last year team 118 did something like a belt drive with multiple motors… we had 3 motors powering our crab drive and we had v-belt which is made of eagle tubing around pulleys that were on all of the shafts coming out of our wheel boxes… i willl try to find some pictures of it and post it up

Just a note on belts in general: last year, our shooter wheel was powered by a belt, and over the course of the season, it wore down so much it eventually wouldn’t go (it broke at Ramp Riot, and may have broken before- I didn’t spend a whole lot of time in our pit my rookie year), so MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EXTRAS!!!

so looking through lil lavery’s thread and doing a little research on my own im still having trouble finding suppliers for theese variable diameter pulleys. Any suggestions?
