Is there a trick to “stretch” a belt. I need about 1-2 cm.
There are belt tools in most cad softwares, but I going to need a lot more detail to provide a useful response. what are you trying to do? 1-2 cm what? etc. ?
Use smaller pulleys
I’m assuming you are speaking about timing belts … aside from changing design parameters such as hole spacing, the utilization of slugs, slotting axle holes, different pulleys, etc., there isn’t much.
There are alternatives to timing belts, such as polybelts. A lot of these are dependent on application though.
Timing belts do not stretch. Despite their outward appearance, most have fiberglass or kevlar strings inside them to provide their strength.
Polyurethane conveyor belts stretch, but it depends on their length.
i think he means physically lengthen a built he has not a CAD model. i don’t recommend it, I would suggest ordering a belt 1-2 cm longer they should have them in that increment.
We are using Quorkka’s intake and the 60T belt connecting the front squish rollers is too tight. It’s almost like we need a 61 or 62T belt
If you need slightly longer belts, try SDP/SI. They have all sorts of oddball sizes. Depending on what you’re doing, an alternative is to 3D print pulleys that are slightly smaller. You can also use a slightly longer belt than what you need and use an idler pulley to take up the slack.
Looks like their intake uses a 9mm wide 60t (300mm) HTD 5 belt.
The part number for a 61 tooth would be 305-5m-09
You can change the first number by increments of 5 to look for different lengths and change the last number for different widths (15mm wide is also common in FRC).
Since timing belts are meant to last hundreds of thousand of miles inside of a hot engine without skipping teeth, a TON of engineering effort has gone into making sure they do not stretch
THANK YOU. This is incredibly useful to me. We are troubleshooting best solutions.
reca.lc has a belt calculator page. One of the features on it is that you can input a tooth count and it will output links to suppliers that carry that belt.
Biemko carries a varied selection of timing belts in those hard to find sizes. You can search for your belt size here at BESTORQ Distributor | V-Belts and Timing Belts – Biemko.
3D print a smaller pulley. 1 or 2 teeth smaller
