Best 170 degree camera

This year we are trying to use a wider lens camera than we have in the past. We ordered a megapixel USB camera with a 170-degree lens. The model number is ELP-USBFHD06H and after trying to get this camera to work for a couple weeks we decided that we might have to order a new one.

If anybody has camera recommendations that would work for our purposes, please let us know!! We are looking for a 170-degree lens that is compatible with FRC and more specifically with LabView.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

We are using one camera for driving. We wanted a wider viewing angle (Axis IP camera). So we purchased this kit from amazon, and glued the wide angle lense to the camera. We considered using the 180 fisheye, but there was too much distortion near the outside limits to be worth it.

Just an option to consider if you’re using it to drive. Do you REALLY need 170 or 180 degrees?

No we don’t necessarily need 170 or 180…we just wanted a wider viewing angle so we can see the field better. This is actually a really good idea and we will probably end up doing this.

Thank you so much!!

It’s not quite the same but you might want to consider using a servo (also called a gimbal).

We have used this one for 3 years - https://www.amazon.com/Genius-120-degree-Conference-Webcam-WideCam/dp/B0080CE5M4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1548766287&sr=8-3&keywords=genius+wide+camera

It works with labview and has a great wide angle lens. In 2017, we mounted it maybe 4" off the ground at the frame perimeter and were still able to see a gear touching the outer corner of the robot. It can be unscrewed from the stand. We removed the mounting screw nubs and made a little polycarbonate mount for it. If you go this route, let me know if you want the CAD file.

Another recommendation - whatever camera you choose, when you set it up in labview, keep in mind that frame rate is way more important than quality. The driver doesn’t need to read anything with the camera, they just have to be able to identify game pieces, goals, colors, etc.
