Hello! I am currently using fusion 360 simply because I had prior experience with the software, but I have seen a lot of teams use other software (Onshape, inventor, solidworks, etc.) Is there a particular CAD software that is better for FRC and robotics modeling?
My personal opinion is Onshape primarily due to the frc-specific featurescripts(custom command you can make or add into Onshape) and a regularly updated parts library in MKCad. In short though, if your team uses a specific cad software thats not Onshape, stick with that.
The best software for FRC is any software that you are comfortable using. All of the options you listed are great software that lots of teams use. I personally prefer Solidworks but my team is planning on using onshape in the future due to its collaborative nature. But to answer your question directly, no, there is no one software that is the best for FRC. The software you use should be determined by how your team functions and how well you know certain software.
I really like Fusion 360, If you like Fusion 360 and have experience with it then you should use it. All the CAD options are great, people usually go with what they know.
I’ve been seeing a lot of these CAD threads come up on CD. I’d say please look through the other few threads that have been posted a while ago dealing with CAD, as they probably contain all the information you are asking for.
