Best Looking Bot

I agree with you koci. Team 148 does have a neat robot, and red too. Have you seen its video?

It does a pretty effecient autonomous mode. I can’t wait to play with them in Houston.

624 robot is pretty neat too. Are you Mark’s friend?

6 days to LSR. I’ll see you there and the robowrangler’s red robot.

best looking bot… the bosch team (342?) is always very clean and sleek. personally though, when you compare our’s (179) to all others (standard square bots) - hands down - awesome!

thanks for the kudos on the paint job - i’ll pass them on to my brother.

Yes, Derik (sp?) Did such a good job, it was fantastic. Not to mention he ended up doing 2 didn’t he?

Consider 408…nominated.

**There seems to be a large misunderstanding amongst the FIRST community. If it was polycarb, it wouldn’t have broken. You used acrylic which will shatter and crack like you wouldn’t believe. Both materials look the same but differ greatly in chemical composition and performance. The original real strong stuff is GE Lexan; the rest that is very similar is referred to as polycarb. Acryilic is definitely not the same. **

Actually, Lexan DOES crack, if you ram it hard enough.

Last year we used the tinted stuff (Lexan brand, from GM). When we ran into a goal last year at full speed, we broke a nice chunk off the edge of the bot. I think we gave the chunk to one of our mentors who couldn’t believe her eyes. I suppose it matters at what angle you hit it and if it’s an edge piece, etc.

-180 reminds me of a bulldozer gone bad

-179 is just plain nuts **

hey thanks! We ALWAYS get our drivetrain to work! I know, I’ve been there, fixing it.

179 crazy (but very good) paint job! Can’t knock the green paint…hmmmm should check our robots for it if we climbed up on top of them. It was dry, right???

Lexan, thin if you scribe it deep enough, you can break it. (In case you were at UCF out in the pit and wondered what that giant snap was, that was us breaking lexan for our team number)

Yes, Derrick painted two entire sets of panels. One with acrylic paint which bubbles and flakes and the other with enamel which seemed to hold better, but would scratch easily. Note that he had to paint everything backwards so as to be on the inside of the lexan…

I can’t wait to see what he may have in store for us in the future…

Some of my favorites would have to be… 45, 60, 192, 312… and ha of course 234

well def. liked 312 it always looks awesome. spam robot had that evil bulldozer apeal to it. If they had it working a 100% i would of been scared of it. I def like are skins on are robot (710) did anyone else see them and like them?

Yea we had a sweet graphic paying tribute to the Columbia space shuttle and its passengers.

**i was surprised seeing them push them like that **

Just like we told 665’s mentor when he asked…that’s because we were dead…we lost a master link on the right side of the drive train and the servos had not shifted completely. thx though…

I loved heatwave’s look when extended out. It was scary watching it fold out too. 179’s paint job was awesome. I liked 180’s big scary look. Think Pink made their entire bot pink, it was funny how many parts of it were pink, I thought it was awesome.

**Dude! It’s all about the upholstry!! 814! 814!!! **

We are most populary known as “The Couch Bot.” So if you hear anyone talk about the Couch Bot…it’s us. =P

YAY!!! Zip ties n plexiglass. Too bad we also used casters n racing slicks…lol. (Not my ideas)

You guys think thats bad on our (240)'s 2002 robot we actually puched holes, ripped, and broke Lexan by ramming it into those goals. We just considered it battle damage and (me being the driver) convinced them to hang it up in our work room… its a very nice decoration. And as for nice looking robot I dont think that our 2002 robot was too bad it was just 80-20 with Clear Lexan and two big Lexan Rollers for popping balls! As for 2003 well our decal guy got changed and our stickers were really crappy so well its our ugly robot… but it did work.

So…
Who has pictures of the 312 2003 robot?
I can’t seem to find any good ones of it, pretty much anywhere.

shrug

One of those things I wanted to take another look at, but couldn’t.

Thanks,
John

because of the strict secrecy during the build season, their isn’t usually alot of pictures of us… but firstrobotics.net does have a picture of us from the back at UCF

http://www.firstrobotics.net/03gallery/pages/0312-1_JPG.htm

you can see that the 'bot is fully deployed, with the ‘joust’ extended out front, and the wings dropped so that we can work on them. the only changes that were made after that picture was taken was the addition of globe motor driven wenches to hold the wings down, and the removal of the front pnuematic break (which isn’t visible) to trim weight.
sorry i wasn’t able to find any from the front.

[size=1][edit] you can get a partial view of our front decal here:

Thanks a lot.
The ones you posted in the edit are exactly what I’m looking for.

Hell of a robot. I remember watching it in the elims (against BUZZ and Daisy) and being really impressed.

Thanks again,
John

Back at the days when Team 60 Kingman High School come to the silicon valley regional, their robots were ALWAYS one of the most beautiful made robot out there. Their 00, 01, 02, 03 robot were all absolutely beautiful machines.

The other team that has really good looking robot is team 115 Monta Vista High School. They rarely painted their robot, but their machining was ALWAYS the best looking jobs I have seen out there, especially their gearbox.

As someone mentioned, the 192 Gunn Robotics Team 03 robot had a great chassis with teh black and the red.

Also, one of the first swerve drive out in the west, the robot of team 258 Lincoln high school did an amazing job this year doing their gearbox and the whole drive train in general. Their motion was the smoothest I’ve ever seen at the competitions I’ve watched.
