This thread is dedicated to what you all feel is the best/ most impressive/ biggest jaw dropper of any off season competition you’ve gone to.
My chioce has got to be one that happened this past weekend at Frenzy Finale. It was the first match of the Championship series. There were about 10 seconds left to go in the match and team 1279 (I hope that’s the right number, correct me if i’m wrong) was on the ground, they started to climb, and made it onto the red platform with about 7 seconds. They got onto the top platform with about 5 seconds. They raised their arm, and with 2 seconds lowered their arm and pulled themselves off of the ground as the buzzer rang!
I turned to Sarah, who was doing all the computer work throughout the day (who did it magnificantly I might add) and I said that has to be the play of the day. She just sat there and nodded her head. We were both completely dumbfounded by what just happened.
Now it’s your turn…any interesting stories?
BTW: Congrats to teams 19, 1089, and 25 for winning, and teams 56, 1403, and 1279 for putting up a terrific fight which made for an exciting final series.
OMG, that was against us, so we got a little scared, but it was TOTALLY the best play of the day.
There were two others that we were in that for me were pretty memorable:
One round we went out with 136, who was having major communication difficulties, and they had to get pulled right before the match. I was talking with some people from 19 (who eventually picked us as a partner) and saying “you should check us out, but we’ll probably lose this round as it’s 2 on 1”. Not 5 seconds later, in autonomous, we come tearing off the line and push the mobile goal into an oncoming 1302 bot, which tips over, evening the playfield. I then turn and say “okay, maybe not”. We ended up hanging and winning that round, which was cool for us.
Another tipping story: we were going up for the bar, and an opposing alliance member was going up the other side. We hang by a cable, and go up from the 6" platform, so we swing a bit once we clear the step to the top. The 2x ball was still on the center platform, so when we went up, we tarzan’d into the ball, kicking it into the other team and they toppled.
My favorite match was the second match of BTB. team 61, 571, 1100 were up agains 186, 126, and 1474. 4 straight matches. best match is when 571 tied single handedly. i was like …wow… great job.
That second match you were referring to happened to against my team 11. Since I was behind the mike I couldn’t show that much emotion, but It was a tough break for us, and you guys played very well.
Well my vote has to go for the one round that i had participated in at PARC. Not just one play, a whole round. It was the 2nd quarterfinal match with us and 11. We were going against 145 and 284 i think. Both 11 and us were damaged over the day and could no longer hang. We had become 2 strong drive trains with no other good abilities.
Ill describe this as best as i can remember, if somethings wrong just tell me.
We go into the match down one. So its do or die. Neither of us think we have a great shot, but we figured with luck and some agression we could win. So we start off poorly. Things are just going bad. About 30 seconds in, we end up tipping 284 by accident, so we just became lucky there, and sorry about that 284. Then 11 starts to corral balls like crazy. So we pick up on that and do the same. Then we see 145 go for the cap so both of us head over there and play d. We block them from the cap and hang. We end up winning the match suprisingly by just pushing around bots and semi-herding small balls. Just a great match.
the reason i came on this thread was to post a reply on the great work done by 571 at BTB, but i guess i was a late. well anyways, team 571 always puts up a good fight. at UTC we had to play 3 matches during the finals against them, they ended up wining. also at BTB we had to play 3 matches at the finals, they ended up wining again. they have earned my vote for the best play/match in the off-season because they were able to defeat us and our alliance partner all by themselves. great job 571. i cant wait to see what will happen at battlecry
Actually boodah, you seem to have captured that match quite well. I still can’t believe we won that. A ball collector and two broken hangers, lost the quarterfinals by 5 points! It just goes to show you that driving and strategy can overcome adversity any day of the week…this day happened to be on a Saturday
we actually had to go to 4 matches at BtB, it was crazy. the thing is, we had a completely new drive team - this was their first competition. they took a little while to learn the flow of things, but managed to pull it together for the finals.
:ahh: a new drive team :ahh: well they sure were good! and thnx for correcting me bout the 4 matches, i was just too occupied by the excitment of all the matches to keep track
