Best Team(s) To Never Win a World Championship

With the First Championship in Houston wrapping up last week, marking the close of the official 2022 season and giving us first time Winners in 1619, 3175, and 6672 (Congrats!). I was wondering what the community’s takes were on the “Best Team to Never Win Worlds?” Let me know what team you think is deserving of a past or future win and why!

If you’re feeling adventurous what are some teams you think are going to make consistent Einstien appearances, and possibly win in the coming years?

2056 is the right answer, but 1690 has been on the precipice for a long time and will likely break through eventually!

I’d put a vote in for 1717.

Looking at the Blue Banner Counts on TBA

Looks like 33 and 359 are due.

Throwing out mentions for 233 with a couple of really close runs.

Edit: 195 has blown my mind since 2013 but especially in 2015, 2016, 2018

I took the first couple teams off the top of my head who haven’t ever won a championship, and sorted them by my opinion of future likelihood of winning a next championship.

At the rate 4414 is going it is only a matter of a few years tops IMO. Easily best super young team.

1756 may be on the upswing to make a challenge for a few seasons
5172 needs to sort a few things out int terms of consistency, but have a crazy high ceiling
2056 has had more than a few attempts in the big dance
6800 is poised to become the most dominant force in Texas (Don’t @ me  )
1986 I have no idea how they haven’t strung a Big W together, we’ll see what the future brings

It has been a long time since 125 had a world champs banner…
I am gonna toss 1983, 2826, and 525 in as honorable mentions, but it seems they are not in contention at the moment

To view it another way:

Would complete a Triple Crown (HoF, Woodie Flowers, Einstein) with an Einstein win: 23, 1816

Would complete a Grand Slam (a Triple Crown, plus a Dean’s List winner) with an Einstein win: 359, 842, 2614

These are the best metrics holistically tbh… but they’re really bias to team longevity and super mentors (not sure that is a problem)

100% agree. They had a really good shot at making it to Einstein this year, but had unlucky quals, and played against the 1 seed in Turing for quarter finals. I can definitely see them making it to Einstein next year, and hopefully being the first team from Minnesota to win champs.

To add to all of (waves hands around ) this

  • Details matter
  • Luck is an ever present and major factor

The context on this is we have some killer freshman this year, and their senior year (2025) should hopefully be a big one for us! Little did I know they almost had it in their first season…

So… the tide’s coming in?

Is there a thread for best teams to never make Einstein? It’s crazy that they don’t have any division banners. They were division finalists in '08 and '09, second alliance captains in '11 and '12, and first overall pick of their division in '15.

1756 as well, they’ve been division finalists the past five champs, semifinalists the two before that, and have yet to make it to Einstein.

I’m surprised neither 1983 nor 525 have ever made an Einstein appearance. Both teams have made impressive robots in the past.

Creeping up to a decade without hitting Einstein…
Seems like they’ve been getting stuck in that > 18th seed < 3rd seed rut at divisions except for 2017.
