I believe the OP is referring to teams that will not be competing at either championships despite fielding a good robot.
Now, I know this is geared towards robots, but I am surprised that 503 didn’t qualify to present for Chairman’s at the championships.
Glad to see us on the list, even though we didn’t qualify this year!

All in all a great team, tried a swerve drive this year, had some mechanical issues, but was still a strong competitor.
Sad not to see 2771 Code Red Robotics on the list as well. (as far as I’ve seen, someone correct me if I’m wrong)
Also a bit disappointed about 5069, The Iron Giants. They’re a pretty small team, but were a solid third pick at Kentwood, have amazing team spirit, and embody the spirit of FIRST in general, especially regarding safety.

They had a solid, super consistant gear cycler and climber and did solid at every event I saw them at. Not to mention they were not a bad shooter either.
I’m amazed 1690 didn’t make it by winning something (they’re going to Houston, presumably off the waitlist). They built what looks like an effective machine that seems to have performed pretty well in quals at two of their three regionals/district events/whatever, but at all of their events they were knocked out in the quarterfinals or semifinals. I also know from working with them in the past that their drive team is always extremely well-trained and well-practiced.
It’s crazy to me that last year they were the first pick of the Tesla subdivision alliance and came extremely close to winning on Einstein but this year didn’t qualify for championships through a victory or an award.

This has been reiterated multiple times in this thread, but nevertheless, holds true.
Team 3528 is definitely very high on this list. We loved working with this team in pink, both at the KC Regional and the Iowa Regional. Throughout the competition, we ran 3 matches together in these two regionals and way too many against each other (
). Over this time, Up Next proved to be an excellent team. They were ranked 1st in the highly competitive KC Regional and managed to place 4-5 gears per match with an autonomous gear that never failed, in addition to having an incredibly friendly and supportive driveteam. When we finally pulled out of those semifinals from hell, I think our first thought was “wow, I hope Up Next wins REI or Chairmans because they definitely deserve to be going to worlds, way more than us.”
Wow I never even realized pink didn’t make it this year, that’s the first time I can remember since 05.
They didn’t qualify in 2014. Still amazing how often they have gone.
Two PNW teams that immediately come to mind are 2811 (StormBots) and 2374 (Crusader Bots.) 2811 has an excellent robot that can do everything well from fuel to gears to defending. When on point 2374 has one of the best gear-bots in all of the PNW.
I second that. 2374 was a sneaky gear bot who was incredibly fast with their cycles. 2811 was in my opinion a super consistent robot that could do all the tasks in this game and a team that definitely deserved to go 
In addition, they’re one of the closest teams to us. They also have both incredible students and mentors. I definitely wish that 2811 could go, and 2374 was also deserving.
From PNW, I would agree with the above comments and say 5827, 2811, 2374, and 5748. They were all excellent gear bots who, in the case of the first three, just missed the cutoff. 5748 was a special case. They have FOUR students on their team. They did not do well in their first competition but they did fantastic in their second. It just wasn’t quite enough to qualify. They would be lighting up the field if they made it to World’s.
2811 and 2374 are strong teams that generally put in a good showing. I expect to see them in contention next year. 5827 and 5748 are 2nd year teams that show a lot of promise. I think they will be teams to watch in the coming years.
from PCH, 3091. 100 Scholars’ smart driving and Einstein-worthy defensive plays not only helped them snag a win at Columbus, but at PCHCMP it was the only thing capable of coming close to stopping the #1 seed of 4941, 1746, and 5074, forcing them to drop a climb to make 4 rotors. It was amazing to work with them, and they’ll definitely be sorely missed here at Houston.
1747 was a fairly strong team from Indiana. They had one of the more knowledgeable pilots and their drive team was really easy to work with and overall a good robot in St. Joseph. Their team had the spirit, strategy, and the dedication to do well at worlds this year.
6721 from Indiana as well, this was their rookie year and they went to states looking strong, their driver was very good with strategy and a very solid driver. For a rookie team they were doing astonishingly well against the higher seeded teams at St. Joseph and were putting up some good points while playing defense as well. Definitely a team too look out for in the future years.
Super nice people from both teams and definitely deserved a chance at worlds. Too bad Indiana only gets 10 slots at worlds, would’ve been a pleasure to see them again at worlds.

Its truly sad that 525 swartdogs and 2883 fred are not gonna be attending either champs. Both steller teams that would put up fight. Both top tier robots that would be guaranteed to be in playoffs in any division.
