Aww thanks! We shot in Quals 78 at Orange Country just to see how well we could after we spent some time at the practice field tuning it. We made 17 kPa in teleop and climbed, not too bad for our first (and only) try! We actually did get invited to Houston Champs and had $15k secured to pay for it but because of paperwork and time weren’t able to accept.
My pick would be 649. Awesome gear robot, can shoot preload in teleop and almost never missed a climb. Definitely one of the best robots at the Las Vegas regional.
Next would be 698. Probably the most improved team in Arizona and had one of the best retrieval station gear receivers period… They were small and maneuverable and could score 5 gears in teleop under moderate defense. Also had a side gear auto to finish it off.
4055, it was a shame they didn’t qualify for district champs considering how effective their robot was. In addition to play their team culture is amazing, they won two gracious professionalism awards and were awesome to work with.
I just want to reiterate for **3528 Up Next **out of K.C. We played against them in the SF in KC and then turned around the next week and they were our #1 pick at Iowa where we lost in SF. Very classy team, really great robot, and they were a nightmare alliance to play against, and then a wonderful partner to work with. We already had our ticket to champs in Iowa, but we were really hoping to go all the way so that we could take them with us to St. Louis. Their auto was just so dang consistent and their ability to run gears and score them with minimal drops made them one of the best pure gear bots that I have seen this year.
See you guys at State champs, who knows maybe we get another shot at playing together.
^+1. Great team, fast robot, smart driving/coaching. Best gear robot at Midwest, no doubt.
Seconded on 649. They put up quite a fight against us at Sac and was I surprised that 987 didn’t pick them at Vegas.
Yo all these other teams, I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish, but Tem 1254 the chez cakes are the best team not going to champs.

This has been said before, but it deserves to be repeated.
525 had quite the strong performance at Northern Lights, seeding 2nd. They had an awesome floor gear pickup and were very consistent about placing a high number of gears. I still remember that my team was second to last in the entire regional before our third match. In our third match, we were allied with 525, and their performance was one of the main factors in our alliance setting the high score at the regional (it was eventually surpassed but still) and propelling us up in the rankings. I won’t lie, I was a little surprised to see them get defeated in quarterfinals and very impressed by the performance of the #8 alliance which defeated them. That brings me to the captain of said alliance, 2883.
I remember F.R.E.D. being among the first accurate shooters I had seen yet, and I also liked their ability to not only handle gears along with that but be consistently strong with gears. They also had a very consistent climb. They were one of the teams I was most excited to see at North Star. I was shocked to see that my team’s alliance had defeated theirs in the third semifinal match, propelling us to finals and a Wildcard spot.
Now, for another team with a very similar number who attended the same regionals, 3883. They were consistent in autonomous and were very good gear deliverers who, along with 1806 and 2227, put up a big fight against the beast alliance of 3130, 1710, and 3277. I was really surprised to see that they had never been to Championship before, and it’s unfortunate that it’ll be at least (hopefully) one more year until they qualify.
They qualified via waitlist for Houston but 1983 did not make district championships this year. They had a good gear running machine and could score some fuel in auto. Not only a good robot but a fantastic team to be around and definitely a role model for us folks in the PNW.
Not to take the spotlight away from any of these teams, but is your team (842) going to Champs this year? 842 has a Hall of Fame qualification, and TBA shows them as not going. If that’s the case, I’m gonna be sad, both because they have a good robot and are among my favorite teams in FRC.
On a lighter note, here are teams that were mentioned as among the best teams not to qualify for 2016 Champs but are going this year: 3255, 2512, 192, 2791, 1410, 4481, 3277, 624, and 3467.
Big time ditto. 1741 became an absolutely beastly HP cycler by the time DCMP rolled around, not to mention their decent shooter and quick climber. If the IN district had one mre spot, they would’ve qualified.
It’s disappointing that 5254 HYPE didn’t qualify this year – they put out quite a strong showing in SBPLI. Definitely one of the perennial NY powerhouses, and their bot this year was no slouch.
At the beginning of the season we decided we weren’t attending unless we qualified through a regional, which we failed to do. It sure lights a fire under your pants to do better the next year!
They are in Turing off the wait list.
Also watch 5458 Digital Minds in Hopper, also off the wait list. Alliance captain twice this year, with the fastest robot it the field.
842 really stepped up its game in the LVR playoffs. Hope that carries over to next season.

Well, this is awkward. I honestly didn’t know we were up at the top until I pulled the data together. If you are like me and dislike it when people use threads like these to promote their own teams, feel free to ignore 4536 on that list.
So when you mean “not qualify for champs”, do you mean the ones a part of the waitlist group too?
Happy we made the list, sad at the same time.
I’ll say 291. They were really quick gear placers and the suspension-like design helped them a lot.
I like it when data does the talking.
Speaking of …
when will you update your ELO workbook to show 2017?
