Best Teams to not Qualify for Champs

Lets start off this annual thread with a reminder about how tragically bad the Regional Qualification system is.

4728 is undoubtedly one of the best teams to not qualify for Champs. They went 9-4, ranked 6th, and made a deep playoff run at their first event. At their second event they went 18-3, with all three losses coming to the 4th alliance in the playoffs, two of which were the result of untimely mechanical failures completely outside their control. They had an average RP of 3.84 during their 13 qual matches, only missing 4 RP’s twice.

4728 would undoubtedly have qualified via the District system and they’ll truly be missed at champs.

I’d love to know who else we will be missing at the World Championships.

3940 didn’t qualify for worlds under the district system in 2022 and were 108th in the world last year and second in Indiana, according to statbotics.

There are a number of really good San Diego teams that only occasionally qualify because the region is pretty stacked and there’s only one regional. There are a lot of good one, but in particular, these teams stand out to m this year.

3255 - SuperNerds (seriously, they are so good this year)
3128 - Aluminum Narwhals
6995 - NOMAD (they still have a chance at Vegas)
3647 - Millennium Falcons
2485 - W.A.R. Lords

California districts when?

California already has more regionals (11) than most Districts have district events… just rename it to districts, add like 3-4 more events so they aren’t overstuffed and a district champs and it’s done. I don’t understand how it’s been 3 years away for 10 years.

Ask Berggren, you’re at the event with him.

I know they had a big meet-and-greet thing with big money donors yesterday to get funding. Funding Districts maybe? Alternatively, I know this new venue was very expensive, so maybe it was just to keep coming back here.

I thought this was going to be us with two events as finalists but luckily not., although I dunno if we are the best :grinning:

I wish I could see 2987 at worlds.

Thank you @Ryan_Swanson. Maybe we will see districts in Minnesota one day…maybe. We appreciate your help throughout the event very much. We can’t wait to watch 6045 at champs and will be cheering them on.

At current team numbers, they’d need 18 events.

4068 - Bearbotics and 1410 - The Kraken. Two fantastic teams that had amazing robots. It was so fun to compete with them!

Sadly, it looks like The Swartdogs (525) who made it all the way to Match 13 in both their Regionals this year will be making a rare miss this year.

+1 for both 2987 and 4728. Both amazing teams that were awesome to watch compete.

I’m also going to add in 7028, their robot is super cool. They also got the 7th vs 2nd upset off on us at North Star, I loved watching that robot shoot the cones, great work on the programming!

I was actually just talking with a mentor about this today, and he said the most likely reason this isn’t already a thing is that it would block out the many international and out of California teams that compete in California regional events.

We can call it the Sunshine District and include Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii so you can still come

I agree with 7028. I loved watching their robot shoot their cones & cubes. That upset match was pretty insane, and I couldn’t have asked for a better alliance (our tipping aside). Your team did a great at North Star! 10,000 Lakes, here we come.

3647 was so good at San Diego and got eliminated by 2 points even when their alliance partner couldn’t score in a match. They pushed 973 and 1538 super far as well.

Whatever happened to the concept of the universal points system?

Those guys just can’t catch a break. Best team in the world to not qualify last year (I say that with only slight California bias) and had that unfortunate situation at SDR this year.
