Best Teams to Not Qualify for the Championship-2018

Unfortunately, it happens every year. There are always teams that build incredible robots and out of bad luck don’t move on to Houston or Detroit. My question to you, the CD community, is what are some of these teams this season?

Since I’m from Colorado, I’ll start by saying two of those teams are 1339 and 2996. Both teams really stepped up their game this season, with both creating remarkably capable scale-oriented robots. 2996 had a remarkable climb capability as well, and 1339 managed to force three rounds with 118 in the Colorado semifinals. Both teams definitely were an inspiration to me and I will miss not seeing them in Houston next week.

This thread should be titled “Why you should switch to districts”. Looking at you, Minnesota.

So which PNW teams deserved a CMP bid and didn’t get enough district points to go?

Asking for a friend.

For CA… Still not quite sure on who all qualified, who didn’t, and who had some bad luck happen to a good robot.

Definitely agree for these two and would at 4388 to the list for Colorado. Excellent robot that went out in quarters twice.

Also will miss 4143 at champs this year. They’ve always built some of my favorite drive trains and robots in FIRST, and were one match away from qualifying at Central Illinois.

To give you a serious answer, I think that 2930 (Sonic Squirrels) is better than a majority of the teams that qualified from the PNW district this year.

Thanks for the mention! In my opinion, our season peaked right near the end of the qualification rounds at the PNW DCMP. I’m very familiar with the position of doing whatever you can to try and get picked, and while our data we’d work well on a playoff alliance, all we could do is watch to see what captains were thinking. Each pick brought us feelings of both excitement and concern, as we couldn’t believe we (as well as a few others) were falling so far. I completely agree with your alliance’s second pick; 6445 was a steal at that point in the draft.

We’re excited to have won the Spirit Award at PNW, and intrigued by the other PNW teams’ adoption of our “Let’s get powered up!” chant - it looks like it will outlive us this season! Though our season has ended sooner than we hoped, I know we’ll take to heart the lessons we’ve learned and compete even harder next year.

639 was absolutely killer this year and it’s a shame they didn’t get the opportunity to go to Champs.

Agreed, they had a really strong robot and got eliminated in pretty frustrating ways (stuck on scale and lost on penalties). Should have made it to champs.

Shameless plug for my team, but 269 had a good run this year.

In Milwaukee, we went 7-3-0 in Quals (Rank 11) and ended up facing 2481 and the first seed after we declined the fourth seed.

In Midwest, we went 10-0-0 in Quals (Rank 3) and lost in the Semis, but ended up winning the Entrepreneurship Award.

This is the best our team has ever done, but we were just short of qualifying.

From my area, definitely 3750, 4818 and 876. Gator Robotics (not to be confused with 5172) was an elite scale robot at both of their regionals and could fill the vault and climb consistently in addition. The Herd was an absolute steal in the 2nd round for me as the #5 captain at Great Northern, and made a lot of improvements for Iowa. Thunder Robotics is just as good and consistent as they normally are, and I wish they’d signed up for a third regional so they had some time to improve and qualify.

Unfortunately, 1746 OTTO didn’t qualify this year. They are definitely one of the best teams in the PCH district and completely redesigned their elevator for district champs.

RIP best team in GA over the past 3 years.

Pouring one out for this team. Awesome people, even cooler robots. Never afraid to be bold.

From Texas.

1255 - #2 Alliance captain at Lone Star South
1745 - #2 Overall pick at Lone Star South
3802 - Consistent Top 6 performance at Dallas & Lone Star South

All of these teams were fast scale scoring robots.
Looking forward to see them perform at the Texas offseason events.

They’re going to Detroit. FB post.

4063 - TriKzR4Kidz

They built an incredible robot and ran it like you wouldn’t believe. They are a great team that does more than most teams off the field as well. They deserve much recognition.

Finally, justice!

(Looks like they haven’t yet popped up on the registration list, which is why I missed them)
