Agreed. Most definitely 3750 deserves a spot in champs. It’s really sad that they are in this thread.
Well, 800/3600*215=48. Minnesota is at 30 teams going to Detroit and had no reasonable path to get 48 teams into Detroit with the regional schedule this year.
Looking around Minnesota: 3750, 2491, 3100, 3184, 3633, 2526, 2472, 5638, 3102, 2181, 5690, and 2227 all played in eliminations at two regionals and made the semis at least once. That would seem like a good place to start the discussion of best teams in MN not at champs.
+1
4818, 3750 and 2526 could’ve been 1st round picks at Champs. I believe all would’ve qualified if MN/ND were in districts.
It’s also hard to think of a better team than 1836 that failed to qualify.
It’s tough to say anyone in South Carolina is in the “best anywhere” category since the state combined for 0 wins this year, but I’ll throw two and a half names out there:
-
6366 had a few teething problems at Palmetto, but was the first pick of Alliance 8 and reached quarters. At Rocket City, they turned the boat around, seeded 11 spots higher, and had the exact same playoff outcome. I don’t think they were in danger of winning Einstein, but they were on point.
-
1876 was the undefeated #1 seed at Palmetto (semis) and #10 at South Florida (quarters, as first pick of the draft). Excellent machine, just can’t seem to put a full regional together.
2.5) 4451 was semifinalist at both Palmetto and Rocket City, the former as the #2 seed (and first draft pick), the latter as the #5 seed and captain of Alliance 4. They’re a combined 20-9 on the season, playoffs included. Why are they “and a half”? The waitlist rectified things.
My point in the earlier post was that you probably aren’t going to hear of many district teams that missed out because the best thing about districts IMO is that advancement to champ is based on a body of work over the entire season, as opposed to regionals where you might be the second best at a regional and still miss out.
Totally agree that 2930 was a high-performing robot that missed out. It still happens, just much less often than teams from regionals. 488 would have been another but they got in when another team declined.
And my point was that this is NOT the place for yet another “all you regional folks need to go district” thread. Trust us, we’re going as fast as we can (or to be more exact as fast as the powers-that-be will allow).
- We just barely beat them in semifinals at Greater Kansas City, and they were the 3rd seed at Oklahoma. Got a Quality and Industrial Design Award this season to show for the good robot too.
1671 is the correct answer here.
1836 and 4087. Both are world-class switch/vault bots that would have done exceptionally well at champs.
Thanks! It means a lot! Sadly we didn’t make it but we will have fun in state!
3255 and 3647.
3255 and 3647.
In PNW, I’d vote for 4450 in addition to 2930.
Aww thanks
P.S. I like the time you posted that…intentional?
I’d definitely have to add 5842, Royal Robotics, from New Port Richey, FL. Semifinalists at three regionals, we got to play with them at Orlando and they’re a fantastic team with a fantastic robot. Definitely a group to look out for in Florida, being so strong for only a third year team.
1836
2839 and 5012.
948 was a good scale bot that should have qualified, and 2733 had a worthy season too.
1836 for sure. This year was rough going for switch/vault bots.
Thanks for the mention here in this thread. Although we did not qualify for champs this year we felt that we had a robot that was very capable of playing this year’s game.
The reality is that not every team gets to go to champs every year and we’ve taken this as a learning opportunity to reflect on what we were able to accomplish this season and look as to how we can improve going forward.
