With the introduction of the Newest two motors into FRC (the Kraken X60 and the NEO Vortex). comes a whole host of new possibilities with the extra power they output. But have you ever thought to yourself? “One motor inline is not enough, I need more power.”… no? Well me nether, It is my great pleasure to introduce the latest in FRC motor technology. From the creator of the Chezy CAD’s most creative robot. I give you, the Backdoor and the topper!! Backdoor
The Backdoor is a two motor coupler that takes advantage of the NEO vortex’s through bore to allow for two motors to be linked by a single shaft. Coming in a sleek 2x2.5x6.9375 or 2.625x2.5x7 inch footprint depending on your configuration. It provides high power density and the ability to swap both motors at the same time.
But what if you don’t like the Neo Vortex? Fear not!!! The Backdoor’s end motor is easily swappable to whatever your heart desires, allowing for up to 50% less NEO vortex to be in your robot.
Topper
Do you need even more power? Is two NEO Vortexs simply not enough for you? Well Beter’s Backshafting Technology INC. has the answer for you. Introducing the Topper, allowing three NEO Vortex’s to be connected into one shaft. Making the best use of the REV MAX planetary 90-degree kit to ensure that you’re robot has all the torque it needs.
All of the designs made by Beter’s Backshafting Technology INC. are public and fully configurable to allow you to build and tinker to your heart’s content. But remember, with great power comes great responsibility. Please remember to FRC responsibly.
Can you mate the in line dual motor set-up to MK4 SDS pods for when the drive motor limitation is one day removed and teams can make 16 motor swerve! 24 would be even better, but I don’t think you could fit a triple motor on both drive and turn of each swerve pod, but …
You nearly gave me a heart attack with this photo, and I amAndyMark 18! I thought for a second there was a mini Kraken and my heart skipped a beat. The motor I want now is something between a cim class and a bag class that is similar in size to the 550 but has slower rpms, something good for intakes and the such.
I don’t see why the 90-degree kit is necessary. These are thru-bore. Simply add more and more motors in-line with one another until you have all the power you need. You only need to turn to the 90-degree kit once you’re approaching the size constraints in one dimension, so you can begin filling orthogonal dimensions with additional NEO Vortexes.
Whoa! And just think: you could use two Backdoors into the sides of a Topper to achieve FIVE motors powering a single shaft! You might achieve sub-0.1-second climbs with a winch or elevator set up like that!
Yeah, in retrospect I would have arranged the motors differently. I limited it to 20 motors so it would be ready to go on an FRC bot and wanted to try and make it look close to a space filling curve.
