Hey Guys,
Yeah, the rumors ARE indeed true. Last night I asked Brandon to ban my IP adress from ChiefDelphi. Gasp! This means I cannot look at, post on or do anything on the web-address www.chiefdelphi.com from my computer.
Why?
Well, the truth is, this has been building for a while now. Those that know me, know I care a lot about this wonderful program, and everyone involved in it. The problem is… I’m getting TOO into it. I find myself checking ChiefDelphi about 10,000 times per day, while this is fun, it’s probably not the best thing to be doing.
So… I’m trying to wean myself off of ChiefDelphi a little bit…
Seeing as I have absolutely no self-control, I asked Brandon to help me out a little… he’s the bestest Moderator in the world, so he did it for me.
What’s next?
Well… I’ll be stepping back from FIRST a little bit. I’m not sure what exactly that means yet, but lately I’ve been finding it harder and harder to find that happy balance between
FIRST/Academics/Personal Life.
In fact… I suck at finding that balance, so I think it’s time to work on it a little.
Whuh?
Yeah… I know…
I’m not giving up on FIRST however, completely on the contrary… this is a preemptive action that will hopefully keep me from resorting to quitting entirely. (My GPA can only fall so far… note to everyone: don’t be like John!)
Here’s the kicker…
Brandon banned my IP address, but in 2 weeks, I change rooms anyways. So this “banishment” is actually more of a… forced vacation. As you can see, I’m still checking CD (on my roomie’s computer right now), but the difference between checking once a day, and checking 10,000 times a day is pretty substantial.
I’ll still be attending some offseason comps, and still hope to Ref IRI if the boys from Indy will let me?
My role within FIRST and on 229 is still in question…
I suppose… we’ll all find out together exactly what “balance” is for me.
I enjoyed reffing this season… a lot.
I also love this program, and love my team… but I don’t think I can run it anymore. I’m looking at my schedule for next year, and my brow is already sweating.
Anyways…
I digress…
I think FIRST is the greatest thing in the world, I enjoy my time interacting with all of you, and I cherish the things I have learned, and the experiences I have had…
I’ll be back around eventually (probably sooner than I want to admit), until then… goodbye.
Thanks,
A hopeless FIRST addict,
John
PS - I’m shocked I had the willpower to get myself banned… my roomie still catches me “testing” the ban every now and then…
PPS - Advice to everyone, especially those joining college teams next year: find some balance in your life. It’s easy to get sucked into this program, especially when there are people relying on you to succeed…
