Big Orange Robotics 2019 Ri3D

Hi all, we’re excited to announce that we’re starting a new Robot in 3 Days team at the University of Tennessee called Big Orange Robotics!

Most of our members are FIRST alumni who want to give back to FRC teams. While we think Robot in 3 Days is a good tool to engage FIRST alumni, we’re focusing on using it as a tool to inspire and teach FRC teams.

A thank you to our sponsors who are making this possible: Tennessee Valley Robotics, Bechtel, Rev Robotics, and AndyMark. We also want to thank UT’s Tickle College of Engineering for hosting our team, and TNFIRST for helping our team out with fundraising.

We’ll be posting small updates on social media, sharing more in-depth videos on YouTube, and also publishing whitepapers about our robot after it has been finished.

As a note, we will not be doing a livestream, but we will be answering questions online that are posted in this thread or asked on social media.

We’re making social media posts now. Don’t forget to follow us there if you want frequent updates!

We’ve got our first video up on how we’ve analyzed the game so far. Check it out!

I thought I would share one of the “prototypes” we’ve come up with…

We’ve got a quick video on some prototyping we did on an elevator:

We have more videos coming within the next few hours on the other prototypes we’ve been working on!

Another video up and another coming up very soon. This one is on our plans for manipulating hatches:

Here’s what I consider our coolest prototype so far, our climber:

I’m really looking forward to seeing how the climber prototype
will work out, it looks like you guys have a very promising solution.

Not a lot for our media team to cover right now with a lot of work being done on mechanisms. We decided to talk about some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that happens with our team, including food, sleeping, and picking up emergency parts.

Presenting our first robot, Smokeynaut, made for the 2019 FIRST Robotics Competition season, Destination: Deep Space.

More resources on Smokeynaut will be made available throughout the week, including more in-depth videos and whitepapers. Check back for more soon.
