Bimba Pneumatic Model Number Question

Team 1816 is in need of another cylinder asap. Our local distributer has one with model number MRS-175-DP. The model number for the one that Bimba would send us that is FIRST legal is M-175-DP. My question is, would it be FIRST legal to use the one our local distributer has rather than waiting for and shipping the other one? I am asking this because I think the first part of the model number is an optional attatchment part that we would not have to use.

Since this is a critical question for your team only an official answer will suffice.

post it to the Q&A.

If you do not have access to the Q&A system then I’ll be happy to post it for you, just let me know.

From the looks of the Bimba website the described cylinder would not be FRC legal.

MRS cylinders have an additional groove in the piston to accommodate a magnet. They differ from the Moption because they combine features of the “Z” line with Original Line construction. Type 303 stainless steel rods are standard.

Emphasis mine

This makes it sound like they differ in more than an “optional attachment part”

However, as Leav noted, the Q&A is the only source for a definitive answer.

Thanks for the quick response. I would be happy if you would post this on the Q&A Forums becuase I do not have access. Thank You.

I am assuming that you want to test/build. Why not use the cylinder from your local distributor to fabricate and test your mechanism now and replace it with the correct cylinder from Bimba before you ship or at your first regional prior to inspection. At least you would be able to see if your robot works. Unless someone with more knowledge than I about the specific MRS-175-DP vs M-175-DP characteristics and whether or not they function dramatically different. I believe that you are going to find out that the MRS cylinder is not permitted.
