Break Out Board???

I haven’t been able to find a set answer, so I am asking the audience…

If we are using Pneumatics, do we HAVE to use the Break Out Board, or can we go with a spike which we have been doing since the dawn of FIRST? Our programmers have the break out board and would love if we can use spikes because they have the program for it already…

You’ll need to use a Spike for driving the compressor but you’re free to use either Spikes or the Solenoid Breakout for driving pneumatics valves.

Alright thanx a lot because that makes our programmers job easier…

Really? If the code is from last year, it is going to have to be modified. If it has to be modified, it is equally easy to go either way.

no they said something about not liking labview or the break out board and electrical dept doesn’t like wiring the break out board either, and they already have the spike code up and working…

I don’t really care either way, but it seems like you have some feedback that the developers should have access to - continual improvement and all.

If you have any specific “I don’t like X because of Y” or “A should be more Bish” comments please share.

One thing to think about is with the breakout board you can connect multiple solenoids. You need a spike for each solenoid you want to control, plus all the wire to power the spike. If you have more than 2 solenoids the breakout board will most likely be less weight and much much neater.

I didn’t really like Labview at first either but all of a sudden the other night it just clicked and I realized how easy it really is and you dont have to worry about missing a single letter or puncuation.
