For many years, there’s been a battle between two teams: Who has the longest time without an official event win?
In one corner: 461, Westside Boiler Invasion. 0 event wins, several Finalists, since 2000.
In the other corner: 599, The RoboDox. 0 event wins, several Finalists, since 2001. (Excluding offseasons: 2 wins.)
Today, 599 bowed out of this competition, winning the Los Angeles Regional to break 20+ years of no event wins. Additionally, they picked up a Wildcard bid to Champs!
As someone who has watched them for many years come so close–and yet so far:
Add 1153 to the competition. 7 finalists including championship division finalist since 2003. They got 2 more finalists in their two events this year and I think they have a shot at picking up a win at NE DCMP this year as long as they don’t skip it.
Back in week 2, 116 captured their first official FRC event win (albeit at a one-day event) since the team was founded in 1996. They had been a regional finalist twice before (2013, 2015) and went back to the event finals two weeks later at DC3.
Given how long we’ve both been around, and the team in question, I think you know that there is only one appropriate comment on that news. (Well, that was the second option, couldn’t find the first quickly enough.)
For those that have been around a while, you probably know where the link is going before clicking it. For those that haven’t… I’m sure the relevant CD threads will be easily findable.
Add 2582 to your list. While we are several years younger we have three finalist wins, one our rookie year in 2008, and two this year, but no blue banners yet.
That finals was so interesting, yet sad to me. Both sides had a double finalist and single finalist from this year. No matter who won, one team was getting their third silver medal.
We unfortunately denied them a win 2 weeks ago in central Mass, but they were genuinely very impressive this year. They were on our pick list leading into alliance selection.
2539 won their first official event in 2022 (Hatboro Horsham), unless you count FIRST At Home Challenges in 2021, in which they won their division. Since 2008, 2539 has come EXTREMELY close to winning an in-season competition, and in 2022, they finally did.
Congratulations! The robot performed wonderfully! It was fun to see you all compete. Big time Kudos from 4926. Now…I need to get back to helping my students find something reasonable to bring to Tippe…
433 also won their first official event this past weekend, in their 24th season. The Firebirds did have 12 Chairman’s Award banners in their history previously, tho.
At this point I think the Most Accomplished Finalist award would go to 5254, with 5 regional finalists and 2 division finalists for a total of 7 without an official event win. Unfortunately they have folded so they will likely remain in this spot forever.
We won our first District meet last year (Dripping Springs) Thanks to a last minute selection of the number one and two of the meet…we were last place…only because we couldn’t get lower! This year, one of our partners chose us before the other partner could…we were runner up in Waco. During Quals…we were no longer last…but 16th! Once you have a taste for gold and blue…you are hooked!!! Getting ready for this weekend…gonna see if we can add another gold and blue to our gold and blue and silver!
Best of luck to Y’all! Our Rookie season was 2015…
