So we have an OV9281 that worked for a while but subsequently stopped being recognized by PV so I plugged it into my laptop and windows told me this:
any ideas if I can fix it?
Did you check that the cable is still good?
Check the USB Port and If the system recognizes It check the drivers with the device manager
can check that Thursday
so I’ve finally gotten around to fiddlig around with the camera and I know a few things. the cable is fine because my pc recognizes that I have plugged something in. The camera is getting power because the board on back is getting warm. and it still doesn’t work
unplug it now, it shouldn’t be getting warm
yeah that’s what I thought it hasn’t been plugged in for the past like 5 mins.
A device being recognized as “plugged in” doesn’t mean that the cable is fine. It just means that the power started flowing and the PC detected that and tried to get whatever was plugged in to identify itself, and that request didn’t get a response. Your cable may still have some damage or intermittent connection in it.
hmm good to know
Are you sure? I don’t think I’ve ever had a device unrecognized for a charging only cable when connected to a PC.
I didn’t say a charging-only cable, I said a damaged data+power cable. Loose connections can throw all sorts of issues in the communication protocol.
have verified the cable and connector are good with a multimeter
also, unplugging and plugging back in the actual camera sensor has made no change
My similar camera runs slightly warm if it’s sending images and is essentially room-temperature cool if not selected to transmit.
interesting… so its theoretically trying to send images or something of that sort but computer’s don’t recognize the camera and the cable is not at fault… just keeps getting weirder and weirder
It could be internally shorted and is just getting warm due to being broken
