Bug Labs

I don’t know if any of you have heard of this, but there is a really cool product out by a company called Bug Labs.

Check out the website: http://buglabs.net/

Basically, its an advanced LEGO kit. I can’t say it better than they can, so…

BUG is a collection of easy-to-use electronic modules that snap together to build any gadget you can imagine. Each BUGmodule represents a specific gadget function (ex: a camera, a keyboard, a video output, etc.). You decide which functions to include and BUG takes care of the rest, letting you try out different combinations quickly and easily. With BUG and the integrated programming environment/online community (BUGnet), anyone can build, program and share innovative devices and applications.

The current modules are an LCD touch screen, a camera, a motion sensor/accelerometer, and a GPS locator. Using the system built entirely off of open source software, you can program the modules in java.

I think its the programmer in me, but when I look at this all I see are possibilities.

That is seriously cool. hm…I wonder if I can adapt some of the parts to a vex kit.

very interesting.

I remember reading about some early proof of concept done a wile back.

can anyone say “gps tagging of images you take”

They need a 900mhz radio onboard, with IFI OI software loadable

Cool stuff though. Modularized electronics. Seems to make sense, tho the price is kinda steep (I guess I’m used to building my own stuff. Consumer electronicwise, this probably isn’t too bad.)
