Next week the kids have finals, so the times will be different. The last full week of the build is a winter break so the school is shut down and we are not sure what we are going to do to work on our robot that week. I wish we had longer meetings, or at least worked that first weekend after kickoff to get a robot design going.
We work 7 days a week, unless the school has a reason not to let us in (abestos cleaning going on at the other end of the school, MLK holiday, etc). Weekdays are 6-9, Saturdays are 12-9 (technically two sessions, 12-4 and 5-9), and Sundays are 1-4. As long as we have an adult there, the school has no problems with us working on the weekends, so we take advantage of the time we can get. During mid-winter break, the hours change based on mentor availability. During finals, we keep the same hours, but there usually aren’t very many students in the shop because they need to study.
We have tried many different schedules throughout the years and have settled on the following.
Mon-Thur 6:00 to 9:00
Sat 8:00 to 3:00
We will also usually work all day MLK day and Presidents day.
We also work the last Sunday before ship and will add the Sunday before if we are behind schedule.
We have found that working every day causes too much burnout on the team. This schedule has worked well for us the last two years and has allowed us to ship a totally functional robot.
We work Mon-Fri from 5:30 to 9ish
Sat from 10ish to 6ish
It really depends who is there and what is being done, we are a 12student team, on average I’ll say we are having six to eight come. Then again its finals week.
Mon-Thur 3-5or6 basicly until we can’t work any longer. I have stayed till 8 in the last few weeks of the build before
Fri 3-4:30
Sat 9-5 Large lunch break, ussualy an hour
2022 has an interesting schedule do to our school schedule.
For the first week of build we meet 8AM-11:30AM, 1PM-4PM, 7PM-9:30PM
After that we meet between anytime between 4:30 and 9:30 weekdays. On weekends we normally meet 10AM-10PM. Students are not expected to show up to every session, just when they are able to. However the student leader board normally shows up to everything.
Here is ours:
Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri: 7-9 PM
Saturday: 8:30 AM until 12 PM, or later.
This year we are also trying out Mondays and Thursdays after school. The school district does not allow meetings on Wednesdays and Sundays, but this schedule works out well enough. As somebody else pointed out, not working every single day helps to reduce the burnout factor.
Team 811 uses this schedule:
M-Th 6-10pm
Sa 9-6pm
Su 1-6pm
(Friday’s are “Date Night”. )
Semeseter exams are next week, so we can’t work from Sunday evening through Thursday evening (but we usually have a Friday afternoon session following). The exact times can vary based on Mentor availability.
5 days a week for the first two weeks (usually 3-6 hour meetings). Next two weeks is 6-7 days a week, same hours. Last two weeks 7 days a week, with ong hours.
Monday-Thursday claims to be 6:30-9, but most people come around seven and leave around 9:20-10
Friday is the “mentor rest day” xD
Saturday’s 9am-5pm, Sunday’s noon-5pm. But this year might be different because the week before ship date is our break, so we may meet more often then.
Monday- Friday- morning schedule- 12noon- 2:30pm (all of build), evenings- 6:30-9:30 early in the build, 6pm- Xam starting week 3ish
Saturday - 9am-5pm early in the build, 6am- Xam starting week 3ish.
Sunday- 1pm-5pm early in the build, 6am-Xam starting week 3ish.
Who meets?
Week 1- All subgroups/all = 80+ students at any given time
Week 2- Usually electrical doesn’t have much to do so they may or may not come
Week 3- All teams meet
Week 4- Drivetrain usually doesn’t need to come anymore
Week 5- Adult Core engineering team and Student Core Engineering teams meet along with most useful underclassmen (total 30ish kids)
Week 6- Whatever needs to get done gets done.
We usually work 4-8 on weekdays and 8-4 on Saturday, though if we’re on a time crunch we’ll work later. Some of us work at lunch as well, but that’s less often, and it’s usually just electrical
We’re in Australia and it is currently summer holidays so we are currently meeting from 9am to 9pm every day until Australia day (26th of January)
After that we probably will be meeting from about 4 (most schools finish at ~3) to 9.
