Bumper Snaps Legality Question

Our team used metal snaps as a means of securing the color of the bumper when it is switched. The rules say that loop and hooks are ok to be visible. Our snaps are visible, as shown in the picture. Is this legal?

need a definitive answer from Q&A, but i would read the hard parts rules carefully. there are a few related Q&A about hard parts that may apply.

This isn’t related to your question whatsoever, but if you upload images to imgur and then post them using the handy image size designations, you can post images that don’t take up the entire screen.

I was going to say… I find nothing in R29 about snaps. Depending on where they’re located, you could run into R29B (specifically), as well as R26.

My completely unsupported and useless guess is that they will be legal as long as they are on the inside face of the bumper, similar to velcro.

229 used these last year for reversible bumpers. We had no issues with legality, however they started breaking after multiple events of use.

I feel honored to see that reposted! I was amazed at the rep I got from that post, a lot of people never knew that stuff

It would seem R29E would allow for snaps.

“optionally use aluminum angle, as shown in Figure 8-5 or other fasteners (e.g.
staples, screws, etc.) to clamp cloth.”

Snaps are ‘other fasteners.’ Be sure, however, that they are above/below the backing board (e.g. the area allowed for 'hard parts).

I’ve been on teams that have used them before a couple of times without issue, they can work pretty well. We screwed on half of the snap to the backing board, and the other half on the reversing flap.
