Bumpers for Swerve

Not sure if anyone has used these. They look interesting but I don’t know how they would hold up.

Those look like Dzus fasteners to me. Assuming so, we used them once - and won’t use them again. The ones we used were very flimsy and twisted under field loads. Maybe these are beefier?

I still like something that bolts down tightly so that you can tie the bumper and frame together structurally. Something like these:

Riveted Nuts:

Thumb Screw with Hex Drive:

Can you share some methods and experience about how to build a reversible bumper? We want to build that to decrease our shipping fee this year, but we don’t have any experience.

Here is the document that we use to train new students on bumper construction. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We have been really happy using Steel Threaded Female Hex Standoffs inside our 2x1 tubing. They are kept from rotating by a 3d printed sleeve inside the tube. Then we use a 1/4-20 from the bottom that we never remove and another 1/4-20 from the top that is removed for bumper changes. The bumpers have a UHMW block made on our router and mounted to the plywood with 10-32 bolts and t-nuts on the back side.

We’ve made a configurable bumper design for swerve chassis if you’re interested. You will likely have to go into the part studios to adjust some of the mounting hardware, but there are variables for adjusting frame perimeter, frame gap, and other aspects of the bumper, which should make integration easier.

Just a friendly reminder that the search functionality on CD does exist.

Continuing recent threads is better than making new threads all the time.

Hey everyone, our team is looking to make the switch to swerve drive next season, so we are working on learning some aspects of swerve before the season.
Something that we’ve always had a hard time with was not figuring out bumper attachments until it was too late, so this year we want to incorporate the attachments into our frame template.
So: How do other teams attach bumpers to a swerve frame?
The public CADs we found didn’t have the attachment methods in their models, so I thought I’d ask here. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
