I think it would be great if *FIRST *would do this.
As soon as the reduced cost CompactRIO becomes available, teams can buy it from FIRST.
when we get to the kickoff, the teams that have bought their control system, would not pay the price of the cRIO and use the one that they bought earlier.
Aye, the most innovative robots will come from students that know all the capabilities of the system, and know how to use it.
I would like to see it handed out early and for all teams, but chances are that would be too expensive, plus there are issues with shipping to all the teams fairly (knowing all the problems with distributing through shipping, some teams getting none, at least right away, some getting two).
At the very least, I expect good, extensive documentation to come out beforehand.
i would liek to see it haded out early mainly case we really only have 2 people to do electrical work on our team so were gonna be scrabling around to ge everything done
According to this post on Bill’s blog, the issue is with the delivery of parts. In a perfect world, they’d have 3000 of everything waiting for the software to be finalized and they’d ship and sell everything at the same time.
Since it sounds like they are waiting on parts, I’d much rather them start shipping as soon as possible, and wait until there is an extra supply to sell team’s second system.
Good Point, my original post was worded a little differently than what I had intended as well. By “same time” I meant around kickoff. I realize now that was a terrible choice of words.
