As we were picking up this year’s KoP, the person
showed us a page describing a possible problem
with the c-base KoP chassis. They said a complete
description of the problem was on-line and you’d have
to ask for a replacement part if you had the problem.
It had something to do with the fit of the corner connectors
into the rails.
I can’t find any mention of the “problem” on the FIRST site
or the Andy Mark site… Anyone pay closer attention
than I did and know what we should be looking for?
Yup, we got the same information at our kick off. Seems like someone made a mistake on machining the parts.
All but 2 of our corner rails fit together. They were both oversize by about .090, and one has a bit of the casting still left in one of the slotted holes. Does Andy have any recommendations on fixing this or should I just throw it on our mill and take it off?
If milling it is an option, it may be faster and more convenient. Ours are a tight fit, but they fit well. If the parts were too narrow, it would be obvious. If all else fails, break out the hammer!
What’s the internal clearance of the C-base rails? I’m going to mill down some brackets for another team, but I only have the brackets and not the C rails.
Just to make things easier to understand, sometimes mistakes happen. In this case a bad run or two of this corner connectors happened, but was only caught later and too late to fix all of them. AndyMark had to have all these c-bases shipped out to FIRST about a month ago so all teams could get their kits. They did recognize that there are some defects and there was an email sent out. This was not a wide spread problem among all of FIRST but rather, there are some bad connectors out there.
I personally love all of the AM products and have not had one problem ever with their quality. Even if you do recieve a bad product, AM will often replace the defect free of charge. Talk about customer service!
Also, this is the first year that AM is providing the kit chassis. Big order, small deadline. Some small mistakes are gonna happen.
This issue was a known problem before yesterday. Kickoff sites received boxes with replacement pieces to be issued to teams with defective parts. If they run out of replacements, contact andymark, [email protected], and they will handle your issue as soon as possible. Remember, when producing parts in such bulk quantities, there are bound to be some that are a bit off.
