CA Summer Space Camp

A new U.S. Space Camp could open in California this summer…
The new camp would be in The Dome on the grounds of the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach. Campers’ dormitories would be aboard the historic ocean liner…

The Dome - a giant geodesic building - was formerly home to the “Spruce Goose,” Howard Hughes’ wooden seaplane. The plane was moved to a museum in Oregon in 1992…

What is sure is the new Space Camp would be able to handle 250 to 300 campers a week, McNerney said. It would be open during the peak season, from June through September, and possibly during holidays and spring breaks.

The rest of the year, The Dome would be home to California Space Place, a sort of interactive museum with robotics, virtual reality experiences and more. McNerney called it “a combination of aerospace, ‘real’ space and entertainment.”
