Cage construction: 1 3/8" Pipe is not usually available

Why does FIRST keep on using non easily available materials for field elements? This yeays cage uses as per the manual 1 3/8" sch 40 pipe. Which is not a commonly available material. I cant even find info about the outside diameter to use a substitute. How are you planing on solving this.

It might be a typo. The field drawings (PDF) for GE-25202 indicate 1" sch 40 pipe, with 1.05ID and 1.32OD. This is close to 1 3/8" OD, so maybe the OD was accidentally used in one spot instead of the nominal size.

The official CAD model shows the OD of the cage pipes as being 1.315".

McMaster appears to sell pipe that meets this spec exactly, though it’s quite expensive.

As other’s have pointed out, at 1.32" OD, 1" Schedule 40 likely falls within tolerance (and is probably the intended material to use).

I agree with @alst - I’m pretty sure these are made from 1" Sch. 40 steel pipe, which is very very common (in North America anyway).

Thanks, thats what I figured out also, that the OD was used as the nominal name in the manual. Hopefully the correct it.

I can confirm, the OD (including powdercoat) measures 1.325" and the ID measures ~1.05".
