Cal Game 2003 date decided... Who is interested?

Hi all. We’ve decided Cal Game 2003 to be on September 20th this year. Most likely it will return to Pioneer High school, but that part of the details are still being hammered out. I will keep you in touch with the planning and organizing progress.

If you are interested in attending Cal Game 2003, please reply to this thread, or send me an e-mail at [email protected]

Thanks!

I’ll be there!

Hello,

Do you need any field parts? De Anza has all the carpet from Sacramento and a ramp that we built. We do have one bin, but its the wrong color. If you need any field parts or help setting up, just PM me.

We will definitely appeciate the carpets from you guys! That will help us out a lot in the field setup. Also, we are considering having a king of the hill side event, and a section of the ramp would be really useful in that. Thanks for offering.

On a side note, thanks to all the teams expressing interest for Cal Game.

So far, the following teams are interested:

100, 114, 115, 254, 256, 258, 481, 581, 604, 605, 766, 814, 840, 841, 846, 852, 968, 980, 1072, and 1151.

That’s 20 teams already!!! Not including some of the major WRRF players in the bay area. At this rate, if we get these 20 teams, plus a few more in my mind (192, 376, 1045, 480, 971, 973, 253, etc), we might have a 30 teams event, maybe 32! Very close to a regional, event bigger than the Sacramento regional ;).

It will be tons of fun! So for those of you interested, and haven’t express interests already, please reply to this thread or E-mail me at the above address.

100 will definitely be there. I am really excited to see So Cal teams coming up… especially 968 which I have heard a lot about and my team’s former captain is a mentor on.

/me glares at Kristina

No need to be afraid of us Nor Caler’s. We wont eat you… well Jim might:D

j/k

Cory

P.S. We have one thirs of the ramp framed in wood with two mesh sections if they are needed for side events Ken.

Where is it? (not from california)

Last year, it was held at Pioneer High School, in San Jose, California.

It’ll definitely be there again, this year.

San Jose is about 50 miles south of San Francisco, and about 300 miles north of Los Angeles. It’s also about 500 miles from Bend, Oregon, just FYI.

Hi!

Cal Game will probably go back to Pioneer High school this year, which is located at San Jose. Because this week is spring break for Pioneer, we cannot ask the administration about this until the break is over. We are going to try bringing it back to Pioneer, since it worked out really well last year, but there is a possibility we need to find another venue.

We are going to open friday eventing for teams to drop off their robot, and we are considering having inspections and practices that night too, so we can start with matches as early as possible.

The date is september 20th. A lot of teams use Cal Game to help their new members get familiar with the competition, and give the champion title one more try. The registration fee is $300 per robot (some may choose to enter more than one robot), and all the rules follow the FIRST rules, maybe except the finals which we will probably do best 2 out of 3 instead of elimination points. Looking at the amount of people interested, we are thinking we will have a close to 30 teams competition, maybe even a nicer number of 32.

Beside the main competition like the one you participate at the regionals, there will be 3 other side events, which still have to be decided. So far, the ideas we have is a autonomous mode game, king of the hill with 2 robot fighting for the ramp, speed challenge, and human player contest. Any input from anyone is most welcomed.

Like last year, there will be a website up and running for Cal Game registration.

Let me know if you have any more questions! I will be happy to answer them.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your patience. We have been working to set a location and date for Cal Game 2003. The initial targeted location and date was Pioneer High School and September 20th. We were informed that the September 20th date is the same date of a football game at Pioneer High school, and there will be no parking as a result. So, we are in the process of coming up with a different date, and we need to hear what the teams think.

We are considering moving the date to September 27th, one week after the initial date. That is the same day as Rosh Hashanah, a Jewish Holiday. We would like to know if any teams will not be attending Cal Game as a result of the change of date. The other option is the 13th of September, one week before the initial date.

Also, we are making Cal Game a two day event, where teams come in to set up, and register at the evening of the Friday, starting around 5pm. We want to get through inspection and some side event on Friday night, so we can start the regular matches as early as possible on Saturday.

Please let us know if the change of date will affect your decision in participating in Cal Game, and if you prefer the 27th or the 13th. Thanks for your time.
