Subject: CalGames 2023 Registration Announcement
June 4, 2023
Dear WRRF Community,
Registration Form:
CalGames 2023 Registration FORM
CalGames 2023 will be held at Woodside High School with Team 100, The Wildhats, Woodside Robotics & Woodside High School as host. Event days: October 6-8, 2023.
A planning & event team has been working away! Please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering in any role!
Overall replicating prior year’s (CG21, CG22) schedule sequence
- Two competition days (Saturday & Sunday) PLUS one evening of practices (Friday).
- Setup (Thursday evening + Friday daytime) + Competition (Friday evening, Saturday daytime, Sunday until mid-afternoon) + Teardown (Sunday)
Registration occurs in two tiers, early and open registration:
-
Early Registration begins June 15, and costs $300 per team, plus commitment to a volunteer slot (6+ students, 1+ adults).
Not fulfilling this commitment with no notification will disqualify the team from competing in CalGames 2024.
- Open Registration begins on August 1 and costs $400 per team with no commitment to a volunteer slot.
- 2nd Robot Registration will open August 22 and costs $400 per team with no commitment to a volunteer slot.
NOTE: Amounts are being finalized over next week, but these are likely amounts.
Teams are strongly encouraged to step up to help out as much as they can!
Registrations received prior to the opening of a tier will be treated as if they had been received at the exact opening date and time for that tier.
Payment must be made by September 15, 2023. See registration announcement for more details, and write [email protected] with any questions.

Back to back with Chezy? That’s rough.

You had a similar take here:
It’s not realistic to avoid back-to-back events entirely within the state. There are about 16 weeks in which we can feasibly host full scale offseason events and something like 10 events. Only about 12 of those weeks are during the school year.
We worked hard not to make TT and BB back-to-back since they draw many of the same teams. There is some overlap between the target teams for CC and CG, but they’re mostly different audiences. Some volunteers will split and some will do both, but that’s how it is in the regular season, too.
I don’t think there’s an excellent solution to this problem, but I also don’t think “too many events to choose from” is a huge problem (though I get that not every team can attend just any event).
I’m celebrating lots of events and crowded weekends!

Subject: Volunteer for CalGames 2023!
Hello everyone!
It’s that time of year again - we are looking for volunteers for CalGames 2023 at Woodside High School, October 6-8!
You can find the volunteer signup form HERE.
This year, we are offering a new option - Key Volunteer Interns!
For students looking to challenge themselves and learn more about MC, Game Announcer, FTAA, or CSA roles, we highly encourage you to sign up for one of these Intern roles to shadow some of the KVs at CalGames!
Please note that individuals volunteering for an event role does not fulfill the team volunteer requirement for event staffing.
Good luck with your offseason, and we hope to hear from you soon!
Best,
Aidan Ferrer

That is probably going to be our plan this offseason
@Leap as VC for this event makes me happy. Excited to see some fresh faces working on this event which fills a different needs than most of its counterparts in the state!
