Calling for all IBEW members

I would like to conduct an informal survey of IBEW union members who volunteer at any First event (FRC, FTC, FLL or JFLL)or mentor a team. This includes any International members. Please include your local and years of sevice. If you had past members on your team, please post for them and the area where your team is located if you don’t know the local #.

I have been a mentor since 1996 and event volunteer since 2000 including the Championship. Local is 1220, Chicago.

I’ve done summer help for electrical companies so I guess I’ve been a member. I know they took some sort of fee out of my paycheck.

In any case I’ve worked the past two summers and was a member of Local 24. (Baltimore area)

Al- the IBEW local in North Brunswick has sponsored us in the past. That was the result of the kids walking into their hall during a leadership meeting, impressing the guys and then walking out with a $500 check.

I know some of the BMS crew either are or have family that are in IBEW.

WC

Thanks Wayne.
That is one of the reasons I am trying to find out who is a member. I have been contacted by the International Orgainization to help write an article and get locals fired up and hopefully get some volunteers for the program and the DC regional. I was expecting to have more people respond since I have met a few members over the years on different teams. I am surpirsed that so few have repsonded thus far. I should add at this point that I am a 35+ year member, (having worked 3 summers in an IBEW factory plus 35 years in Local 1220) and have been reminding my members through the newsletter. I have been an officer of this local for most of that time serving as a steward, E-Board member or chairman, and have served as local President for the past 23 years.

Hi Al,
I’m not a member of IBEW - but my Dad was for over 50 yrs, so was Grandpa, and most of my uncles & cousins, and also currently both of my brothers.
All members of IBEW Local 58, out of Southeast Michigan.
Best wishes in your hunt for IBEW members that participate in FIRST.

Sorry for the lateness Al, but I don’t frequent the boards much anymore.

I am in fact a member of IBEW Local 1837, representing Public Service of NH. I have been a union member for about 4 and a half years. I’ve been mentoring and volunteering since 1999, and involved with FIRST since 1995.
