Early to late Aug is the FIRST calm before the storm. Many summer events are now complete, students are preparing for fall classes and the CD Forums are quite empty as vacations are diverting our attentions.
With this said…
Any clue to when FIRST will be releasing basic information for the 2006 season? Dates, locations and new registration processes are of interest to all FIRST Teams.
We have the dates for the Championship April 27, 28 and 29 but this is all.
Of interest also is the result of the location for the Championship 07,08,09 as the bid process was to be complete early this fall.
We all need to enjoy the calm for it is such a short time, but the anticipation of a new season is in the back of our minds with questions, ideas and the excitement of the coming Robotics season.
Not to start a huge debate, but I had a thought (that I’m sure someone else has thought of)…
But, wouldn’t it be nice to have the kick-off before the winter/Christmas/holiday break to allow people to use the normal time off from work/school to get a really good start on the game?
Sure, maybe it should be a time of relaxation before the 4 months of FIRST, but it is an idea…
The signs are here already… most ominous is The All-Knowing, but often Less Then Helpful, Dave Lavery has taken his webcam down. He’s hiding something! Something cool!
Not really. I’d prefer to use my two weeks before January to travel to see family, and I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one who would have an issue with there being a kickoff before January because of that reason.
The word is that FIRST is supposed to release the location of the 07,08,09 Championships no later than Aug 15, which would be this coming Monday. It’s down to two cities so we shall find out very soon! :]
I’m don’t think it will be released to the public at that time, but I could be wrong. In anycase I’m looking forward to hearing the results (no matter what the outcome is )
Do you know what the 2 cities are?
Many dates can be guestimated by looking at where the events are going to be held. The 2 possible regionals for us (Rochester & maybe Cleveland) both have their spring schedule posted. & since the events are held on school property I can guess that FIRST will schedule the events during a school break. As for anything else who knows.
& as for the holiday break idea … My wife would KILL me. Just use it to relax … like that could really happen.
I think if they don’t keep the event in Atlanta, they may move it to a college campus. But then again they need a place with a large amount of hotels. But I can’t wait for more info to come out. And the sooner the date for kickoff comes out, the sooner we all start counting.
There was a “rumor” a while back in this postabout 4 cities in the running. Could one of these cities the the destination of the FIRST World Championships?
I think a bigger question for right now is “when do we get info about the Vex Pilot Season?” Because that is scheduled to kickoff in October. Right around the corner. I have received some preliminary information about regional locations (none in California ) but that is it.
PSSHHHHHH what makes you think i haven’t started already. Ive already designed my electrical system and I’m currently testing a new drive train idea. Nothing that involves physical construction but still getting ready.
I’m sure most of us are very eager to see what the 2005-2006 FIRST robotics season has in store for us. Personally, I don’t mind the wait because it gives us time to prepare and train the new members.
I really don’t see the point in speculation. But that’s just my opinion.
I don’t want to say anything to offend people, so sorry if I did. Please don’t flame me!
