Does anyone know how to use the new board as far as using servos on the new board?? We do know how to take pictures and do basic operation, but as far as the new board this year goes we do not know how to use the servos with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
p.s we attached some pictures of the new and old boards.
You would connect the servos to the appropriate PWM outputs on the RC and code them. Or you could use Kevin Watson’s camera code–it outputs the pwm signal for the servos on PWM01 and 02, I think.
Is there there a way to send Kevin’s code’s pwm values form the RC to the camera? I would be nice to not have to wire those to the RC if the camera is placed far.
You used to have to send 2. Now you have to send 4 (2 and then 2 for the servos).
I havent looked at the board but there is a spot where pins should be if I recall. Maybe you can use those. I havent looked at them yet so dont quote me and I also dont know the legality of doing that.
Although this was allowed in 2005, as I read the rules I do not believe it is legal to control servos with the camera this year (especially given that the new camera does not have the PWM headers populated). If you plan to do this I strongly advise posting it as a question on the official FIRST Q&A. Here’s the relevant rule:
A servo is a motor and therefore as I read this rule it “must be controlled by a relay or PWM output signal sent by the Robot Controller”, although I will admit that the rule doesn’t seem to specifically address servos (and I can’t find any that do).
On second thought, I’ll have my team submit a question on this, as I’m curious now myself and I’m concerned that it may come up when inspecting other robots.
