Can I encase my battery in a 3-d printed case

I’m trying to make a case for my team’s battery and was wondering what rules were around the sort. I would also like to know what battery is the best for longevity and versatility.

I’m not sure but I will look into it. Our team was thinking about doing something similar.

There seems to be 3 folks from the same team replying to eachother.

This is absolutely allowed, but a little confusing as to why…

As for encasing a battery :

You need to be mindful of a few things, and it will make battery inspection more difficult if you suspect damage.

There are instances of teams making handles, some searching around will turn up a few designs.

Here is a thread, there are more out there.

You absolutely should not seal off the battery vents. I would not recommend the handle/cap design linked above for that reason, as Al commented in that thread.

Encasing the battery also prevents an important form of inspection: bulging side plates indicate failure.

I would advise against encasing any significant portion of the battery. There are many other ways to do what you want without the safety risks of full encasement.

This is my thought for my case what do you think?

Sure looks like a case to me!

longevity and versatility.

Do you believe it meets these design goals?

What testing or evaluation has been done to back up those assertions?

That is my next question, how do I make it better, and add integrity?

Personally I would make those walls thicker. That battery is a lot of mass and depending on how violent the collision that could easy snap with enough acceleration. If this is going inside a metal plate thats fine but then I ask how are you planning to secure this to the frame or belly pan, etc. I see you have a thin slot for what i’m guessing is Velcro. Personally I would use a pretty thick one, like 3in wide and make sure you’re using the metal frame to secure this whole assemvly and not just letting gravity hold it down
