Can we not mock people?

I know the Greyt thread got some people frustrated, but cant we not mock and make fun of the person who did it? It doesn’t matter if you disagree with what he did or not, this is extremely childish, and doesn’t set a very good example for those who are just reading through CD. Please, I know 2020 has been rough on everyone, and I think that’s only made us more on edge, but please have some GP. Thanks.

EDIT: tl;dr for those who missed the original thread: someone started a “hot take” on how greyt should basically be illegal, and the thread descended into an “OP vs. the world” situation, with a few people playing devils advocate. Then, OP posted that this was all just a psychology type of experiment to see the type of responses they’d get. People got even more mad, and rightfully so, because they never consented to the experiment, and got even more mad. OP deleted the thread, and then people opened new threads to keep the anger going, and some resorted to mocking and making fun of OP for deleting it.

guys, I know what OP (the original one) wasn’t right, and you have a right to be frustrated. But it’s important to be civilized. If you want people like OP to not do these kinds of things again, you should be calm composed, and logical. Its ok to meme about situations, just not when its at the expense of others. I know I missed a chunk of the discussion, but lets tone it down a little bit.

Also, to those that have been relatively composed, and helping OP understand exactly what he did wrong, Thank you.

Does an obviously childish thread warrant a childish response?

Sorry not sorry. Trolls deserve ridicule.

I made a mature thread that was inspired by it, is that an issue?

I was more talking about the other one. I thought your post was good

Personally I would appreciate it if individuals do not waste the mods time being or being like the OP of that thread.

Is this meta-banter?

Very true.

I’d save a lot of time if I didn’t have to screenshot threads before they get deleted.

I personally think that GREYT post was incredibly informative. That exact topic had been debated time and time again here, yet many people, including me, chose to respond to it. Even considering Anthony’s discussion on informed consent when conducting experiments, I think that the data OP wanted to collect would have been interesting to see. I’m a bit dissapointed that the thread was deleted.

I had a 23 like post in that thread. Do I still get credit?

Also, when does the prize money for “Nice Reply” come in the mail?

Pretty sure likes are worth 1/1000 of a rep… I’m still waiting on that check.

I do a bad job of not mocking people on here, usually with references to a certain 2011 robot. Then I feel bad about it and apologize. I abstained this time and feel better

I don’t see how you saving the messages is a good thing, because I sure as hell hope you dont actually use the results of your “experiment” for anything, including writing a paper using them. Conducting any form of experiment on humans without direct consent (and probably some other things I’m forgetting) is a gross breach of ethics, and could easily result in legal consequences.

(Not to mention you “kept stepping in to keep arguing in order to make sure that responses kept comming in” literally invalidates any results of such a potential “experiment”… You literally couldn’t have done this more wrong.)

This sounds like an excuse for an unpopular opinion that’s rapidly growing out of hand.
