Do we haveto use the new D-Link that they sent us this year or can we use the old one too ?
You can use whatever you want when you are practicing in your team’s facility.
At the competition you must use the provided DLink AP/Bridge device.
While I would love our team to be able to use the old modems (both the 2009 and 2010 versions), when we tried on the new firmware the build failed as it was looking for some command server on the new modem.
Has anyone else seen this and can it be bypassed for testing of old robots. We would love to re-program our older robots for showcases, PR and the like.
Thanks
Nothing in the control system cares what is providing the network link between the Driver Station and the cRIO. We successfully use the Linksys router and WGA on our old robots with new software, and it works fine on the control board of this year’s practice robot as well.
The requirement for the D-Link DAP is only going to matter at a competition, where it will be specifically configured as a wireless bridge looking for your team’s SSID using a unique security key.
been there, done that.
I actually set up a wireless b router to be a robot radio… it uses 12v and has wireless… I might test it on a bot this weekend.
the next step would be a wireless n point with 3 external antennas and high range antennas.
OK, so just to make sure I understand, according to R52 & R53, the DAP-1522 is the only radio that’s legal for use in competition, yes?
TIA,
Mike
Yes, this is correct.
