Can we use this encoder for swerve drive

We bought this encoder of Andy mark but I couldn’t find it in there again. Our main questions are have any team used this for swerve if so how did it work and what issues did you have with it if any

This is an incremental encoder, so it’s not going to work for swerve steering. You need an absolute encoder. Also, adapting it to available modules is going to be tricky.

There are lots of low cost options now to make this pretty easy.

Please don’t, for the reason above. While you will hear many people say it is possible it is a major footgun to not use an absolute encoder for a swerve drive.

If you choose not to you will have to realign the wheels everytime the roboRIO powers up or the device powers up. Which can happen midmatch with a brownout or power draw issue…

That’s the main issue I see come
Up a lot while researching on it we just had these on hand and didn’t know if we could use them for this purpose

Please don’t use these encoders for the reasons mentioned by the others.

There are many low cost options available, like the Thrifty Bot mag encoder or the Redux Robotics Canandmag. REV also has a through bore encoder that can be used natively with MAXSwerve and with an adapter for SDS.
