Is it allowed to have platforms come out and lift other robots like in previous years?
There aren’t any rules against it.
There are no rules against this specifically. There are plenty of other rules that makes this task very difficult. I suggest you read over the entire manual thoroughly a few times to make sure your idea isn’t breaking any of them.
The rule for extending outside of the frame perimeter state that you cannot extend passed 12 inches. but in previous years this was lifted during endgame. This is where my confusion comes from. Can you extend passed 12 inches in endgame?
Nope. You’d have to do it from within 12" of your frame perimeter.
Rules from previous years don’t apply this year. This year’s rule has no provision lifting the penalty for over-extension during the endgame so it’s still illegal.
Nothing preventing it (any mechanism) just needs to be within 12" of your frame perimeter , go for it if you want.
Teams need to be very aware during a hang, that 12" is relative to your frame perimeter in any orientation of your robot. Bad fouls including up to a RED CARD if all the sudden parts of your robot are longer than 12" because your robot is in a different orientation hanging as you and a buddy hang or even alone . The way I read the rules myself. I will be warning my team of that very issue.
The restriction that is eliminated during end game this year is the height limitation. Some folks read that and thought it was all size limitations, which is where I think these ideas have been coming from. You can get as tall as you want to climb, but still have to be within 12" of frame perimeter.
As others have said, I believe you COULD lift other robots at the end but I would strongly advise against the strategy.
