I’ve done FRC for a while now, but only just came across the documentation for the TalonFX Orchestra feature (Orchestra) (video example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgVR9oG9dsw), and I was curious if running this on the robot (while disabled or enabled) violates R203B (https://www.frcmanual.com/2024/robot-construction-rules#r203-general-safety). I can’t imagine it would be considered distractingly loud compared to all the other robot noises at an event.
The krakens jingles when they turn on. So there’s no real difference between that and karkens “singing”. Now the the question becomes should you; probably not.
It’s a very quiet noise and based on the video it cannot be heard from far away. I would say it is fine and if you do get a warning for the sound you could always turn it off after the match.
Orchestra mode can only be used with the motors enabled, so unless you want to waste match time serenading your alliance partners I wouldn’t recommend it
Not anymore. CTRE has a feature to have Playback While Disabled
We have an auto for when our alliance partners want us to stay out of the way that just plays the wii shop channel music
TalonFX Orchestra, great for off season recruiting, demos at an elementry school, or getting a chuckle at a sponsor event.
TalonFX Orchestra, pointless at competition and will make many teams question how things are prioritozed within your team.
We’ve talked about using Orchestra as a notification device that the robot is alive, much like the RSL. Sometimes people don’t see the RSL, so a oscillating buzzer like a warning siren would help. Most robots don’t have pneumatics to act as that notifier anymore.
While your dedication to safety is honorable, I would lose my mind if I needed to listen to a siren for 8 hours a day during testing
I don’t set 1339’s priorities for the robot these days, but if I did I’d surely be pushing for this, because it seems fun. Having a good time with robots isn’t the worst thing a team can do.
Hmmm… Fair, fun is indeed important.
I guess what I am getting at is if the playing of music comes at the expense of core robot functionality, e.g. driving in autonomous.
I have the same opinion about overly flashy LED light shows.
You would appreciate the students on 177 -
Our team used it to play in the pit and on the field but you cant hear it, even in the pit you had to be like withen 5 ft of the bot.
Is there a clip of this? I can’t find anything under the pile of Seattle Kraken videos.
I would love to have an FRC robot that plays this when it turns on.
You can’t just say this and not post a video!
Sorry I’m a little confused? Video of the jingle? As far as I know, every kraken robot jingles when it turns on. However, I do have a video of it making music.
What you posted is good. I have never worked with a Kraken and wondered what it sounds like when they boot.
My encouragement to 1339 for this year (hey team, if you’re seeing this…) is to make a basic, functional robot that drives well and does ONE THING that is competitive (picks up and scores a game piece in one way, for instance), and beyond that see how much time you have to make it more fun/competitive/colorful/whatever. Making motors sing, that sounds like fun to me
(it played for 2 autos at kcmt and we could barely hear it from the driverstation)
If we’re still an frc team in 6 days I’ll record it and post it
