can you use another laptop besides the netbook to use with labview ?

Of course.

All the FIRST software can be run on a Laptop with windows. It either came in the KOP or can be downloaded from FIRST’s website.

You should be able to, we use a nonstandard Syx laptop for our driver station, so you should be able to use any computer you want.

ok so can we compeat with anyother laptop in a ofical laptop besides the classmate?

The Classmate is not required.

Wow I wish I would have known this last season, would have made image processing actually doable.

the only catch is… luckily we learned it during a preseason match…is when using another laptop for driving, you have to make sure you set it up right, and in a user account that is the same as the one on the classmate, so the field computers, know where to read it

Be sure to read the setup manuals. The laptop still has setup requirements, but the account name is no longer required.

The “install the Driver Station on a non-Classmate” document from http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/2012-kit-of-parts-driver-station still has instructions for creating the Driver account. It also says “The 2012 FRC Driver Station will only link with the Field Management System (FMS) if the user login account is Driver.”

Hmm. Well, creating the driver account still has some benefit, but requiring it to link to the field was removed.

The FRC Control System PDF is saying:

Regardless of the programming language you plan to use, you must install the FRC Tools from the National Instruments
USB included in the 2012 Kit of Parts.

But we can find no such USB in our Kit. What is this referring to?

I’m not particularly sure what exactly you’re referring to, because there’s no document on usfirst containing that exact phrase. Given the reference to NI however, it’s likely that this is only applicable to LabVIEW, despite the disclaimer.

Could you provide a link to this document?

In your KOP there is several software items.

A WindRiver DVD, plastic sleeve with 2 DVD

A package with PTC DVD

A cardboard DVD looking package. If you open the package it has a really cool USB drive, in the shape of a credit card, but you unfold it and it becomes a USB drive.

I’m having a problem with the installer on my LV USB drive. I may have to get it replaced.

a) is anyone else having problem.s

b) can I download the LV installation package ?

If you use a laptop other than the E09 or E11 Classmate, play very close attention to R80.

There will be no 110VAC outlet for the driver stations. The competition field will have 19VDC which will power the Classmates. If you deviate, you will be on your own for power.

I had no issues installing the new labview software from the USB drive. I also had no issue reflashing the classmate 2010 version with pressing F11 to get into the boot menu. Once the classmate was reflashed I was able to add the 2012 updates from the ni website.

Yes, Why would you not be able to? I don’t remember reading in the rules that you cannot use another laptop.

The instructions were updated today to say that the driver account is no longer required.
