So our team just won Engineering Inspiration this past weekend at Troy District which means that we are presenting for the award at Troy (our robot sadly didn’t qualify for MSC) . Does this mean that EI is the only award we could possibly win or is there a chance of us getting Entrepreneurship or like a Judges Award even with just a presentation?
Based on my understanding, you are correct. Other judged awards happen in the pit so you will not be eligible.
Thank you very much for the clarification
The only issue I see with this is that in the manual it says that any team submitting will be considered. The only thinge for the entrpreneurship award that the judges are required to do is read your submission. My team ran into this at North Star, where the girl who put our business plan together waited in and around our pit for the entire day mistakenly thinking judges would come and speak with her.
I’ll leave finding exactly where an explanation of the Entrepreneurship Award is as an exercise to the diligent reader.
EDIT: The precise wording is “A team is eligible to win the Entrepreneurship Award at any event they participate in.”
So it depends on the definition of participation- I’d argue that if you’re competing for EI, you are by definition participating in the event.
That’s what I was thinking too. Judges have access to the entrepreneurship submission so why need have the ability to read over the document. And yeah, in a sense we are competing and participating.
We are in the same position (we won EI at Bedford, but did not qualify to compete at MSC.)
From the Guidelines emailed to EI teams:
“All recipients of a district Engineering Inspiration Award are invited to interview for the Engineering Inspiration Award at the 2014 Michigan FRC State Championship. This interview is conductive irrespective of your team qualifying to compete at the event. Additionally, winning the Engineering Inspiration Award at a district event does not qualify your team to compete at the state championship.”
I consider the last sentence to mean that you will not be competing for any other awards.
Good luck to you guys! We are in the same situation as you of winning in the last week and being over a month behind in preparing compared to our competitors. It is an excellent exercise for the students, though.
We presented for Chairmans so I think we’re probably just going to do our chairman’s presentation with a few minor changes. I remember preparing a State Rookie All Star presentation my freshmen year in only week and let me tell you, talk about rewarding stress. Good luck to you guys too.
