Team 188 (Woburn Robotics) won the Chairman’s Awards!

I would also like to congratulate all the teams that participated at the Canadian regional. But especially to Woburn on their Chairmans award and all the Winners of the elimination rounds.
A big thanx to Mark Bredner for bringing FIRST to Canada and a big thanks to my teacers and fellow engineers (peers) who worked on SWAT Mobotics’ robot, this has been one great first year!
So tell me…How does it feel knowing that your teams will be in the history books for all time as the winners of the FIRST international FIRST competition. That is something that I know I am jealous towards you about!
Wow… never thought of that. Didn’t they have regionals in England as well? I forget…
If we indeed are the first international regional FIRST competition winners, I am honoured and really happy to be down in history for something
BTW, I never said thanks to a few teams and people that really stuck out in my mind. First and foremost, I would like to thank Mark Breadner. He was the mastermind behind all this. He’s been the real driving force behind getting FIRST into Canada. And what a wonderful success it was! I think there were 25 Canadian Teams this year compared to last year’s 3 teams. Amazing
Second, I would like to thank Mr. David Grant. He is our mentor and one of the many people that helped Mr. Breadner make FIRST such a success in Canada. He spent endless hours, staying really late many times for our team (cuz we need adult supervision). Thank you very much!
On to the teams…
Team 188 (Woburn Robotics). Thanks for the practice session we had earlier in the year. Also thanks for being such good friends and congradulations on the Chairmans Award! You guys really deserve it!
Team 863 (SCS Robotics). This was the team that we helped very closely. They shared our workshop and many of our construction guys helped them throughout the construction phase. I personally didn’t really get to meet or know very well many of you (cuz I’m webpage team ) but during the regional, your support was invaluable. Thanks for cheering for us although you didn’t make it into the elimination rounds. Special thanks to Ms. Hancock for the late night dinners and staying so late for so many nights during the six week construction phase.
Team 233 (Think Pink). I would just like to say you guys have an awesome robot! The ball collecting system on your robot was amazing and placing first on the seeding rounds is really a huge accomplishment! Our team was actually a little nervous facing your team in the elimination rounds. Hope to see you guys down in Florida!

And congradulations on now being able to go down to Florida! Must be a thrill to win a regional competition being first year rookie teams.
To the numberous rookie teams that competited in the regional:
Congradulations on building a robot and being able to compete with it. Getting a robot to work by itself is a huge accomplishment. Thank you very much for joining FIRST and helping us promote the FIRST program to Canada. I truly wish you had fun. Hopefully, in later years, you will get a chance to win a regional and maybe even the championship!
Wow… there. I personally had a wonderful time. This was my first year in robotics. I helped out a little bit on construction. But most of my work falls on our website and designing t-shirts, buttons, etc. I would have never guessed I would have so much fun. I can’t wait till I get to go to Florida. I hope to see you all down there!

At the GLR at Eastern Mi University I was walking around with some guys from another team. Our schools are rivals so we know each other and being a rookie team my team was showing them the ropes. So walking around we saw some guys in suits and we decided to follow them having nothing else to do. I mean these were guys in their mid 20’s in suits while no one else looked like this so something was special about them. so we stopped to talk to them and they took us into their suite. they are currently looking for funding but want to start a team which is cool. some high school boys that would be on the team were there to. so we were introduced to them. it was funny bc their would be human player was watching the other human players and commented"Robot basketball hahah.zap zap." we started to crack up. it was weird so we said bye and left. it was interesting and as we all left the suite we said the older guys seemed like the mafia. therefore they were dubbed the “bosnian mafia”
oh so my point. wouldn’t that be cool to have a bosnian regional? lol

I would also like to thank my team… 610… except for Alan. Cuz he was a dumbnut. And also he likes to abuse his team members…

Altho it definately good that the ‘Canadian’ Allicance won the regionals…I was right there losing my voice yelling…lol

…and I didn’t notice any Mafia at EMU while I was there…Altho I suppose I wasn’t following people around 
As you see, we on our team, having such a good robot, gets so bored in the pits w/ nothing to do, we follow people around. I have done that before, but i have gotten slapped That wasn’t fun, but it has worked before, too!
Work in the pics? All we did was replace 1 transmission 3 times and fix another…Nothing major 
Loc-Tite is always good…That all I have to say.

since when did we use loc-tite?
I remember the only thing that held stuff together was tie-wraps

Ew… lock-tite… no good.
It maybe good for small jobs… but don’t even attempt to use on something that you want really tight.
During the regional, our sprockets were slipping and thus causing chains to come off. We tried to use locktite to stop the sprockets from slipping but no… that stuff doesn’t do much.
So, we ended up welding the sprockets onto the axle… and even THAT wasn’t very strong. The helpful people from the workshop told us that it was a surprise that the welds held together…
We got a huge repair job to do once we get down to Florida… not good. 
lol, Sean, you’re right - We did have more tie-wraps.
I think it was prolly the funiest when I was tie-wraping the bot up while the inspector was looking at it…lol…good times.
But, we did have some loc-tite in there as well.
LT is good with things like rubbers and stuff, doesn’t work so well on metal - Altho there are many ‘versions’ of loc-tite, some are for metal.
Team 48 was in the house in Canada and we were loud and proud the whole weekend, until the fire alarm went off in our hotel. I was sleeping and came to the lobby in my monkey bath robe…but other then that I had a great time!! Everyone there made history that day and that’s all there was to it!! Everyone helped everyone else… sharing batteries with the alliance you were up against…That was a great moment!!

To be woken up outta bed by a fire alarm was scarry enough and then to have to walk downstairs and sit in the lobby with your bath robe on, that was an even scarrier thing!! Cleveland regional was nice in the sence that we got to sleep at home, but being at the school at 5:30 in the mornign was beginning to get to me!! Cleveland is a 45 miute drive and then rush hour trafic as well. Oh well…we had a ball in Canada and I still have 45 bucks left in canidain money!!

Glad the ELITE had fun, and we look forward to having you back up here next year…
And I think some people on my team (mainly one girl) want us to go to the Cleveland regional next year…I think it might have something to do with her new b/f that just happens to be one of the ELITE…You know who you are

It would be awesome for you guys to com join us down in our home!! Cleveland ROCKS!! There are alot of fun and interesting things to do while in the city that rocks!! Make sure you go to TOWER CITY though…shopping mall!! Yeah!!
