Our team is currently wiring a swerve bot with CANCoders and a Pigeon 2. We have a Mini Power Module and were wondering if we could use that as a power source for the encoders and the Pigeon, as well as which fuses we should use if possible.
Each CANCoder draws 60mA at 12V, times that by 4 you have 240mA. This can be wired out of the VRM 12V 500mA ports, or in your case for the MPM, any low current fuse should work. Or use different channels for each, same thing applies
The Pigeon, similarly, draws a max of 46mA at 12V. So any low amp fuse.
Personally, we just used the VRM, but, the MPM should work at low amperage fuses.
Anyone correct me if I’m wrong here.
Just wired everything and it seems to work, thanks for the reply!
I am just curious if this is legal for inspection
Check the rules. They’re pretty permissive for “custom circuits” like this.
I don’t think there would be a problem with it as long as it follows the gauge rules in R622.
My team has been doing this since we started using swerve about 2 years ago and we’ve passed inspection every time
