Cannot Interact with Driver Station

Hello,
So, our team is having a bit of an issue trying to even use the Driver Station. When we run it we run as administrator, but we’re not able to interact at all with it. We cannot change tabs, or click anything in the window. It doesn’t say not repsonding, and we’ve pinged to the roboRIO, flashed it, used the USB, used it wireless. We’ve uninstalled the entire thing and reinstalled as well, and it still does it. We’ve narrowed it down to either the computer or Driver Station, but we don’t know how to fix it. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Robo-Raiders

Have you tried with a different computer?

Yes, we have tried on a different computer, it does the same thing, but it’s a computer with similar specs. Could both computers be too low quality to run it?

While it’s possible, we’ve run the DS on some pretty low-powered laptops. What are the specs like?

Both Intel Celeron Processors and 4G-8G of RAM. It will be a bit before I can get exact specifications.

For scale, we’ve run the DS on a AMD Vision E notebook, and more recently a Thinkpad T420

Huh, I have no clue what our problem could be then, but as the computer guy for our team, it’s been bugging me all week. I really wish I could find the solution.

Have you tried a forced reinstall of the NI tools? If you just run the installer it looks like it is working, but it skips pieces. I wiped our computers… but then an NI engineer posted how to force the reinstall.

For sure @Team6732. I wouldn’t like to think it is completely related to your computer’s specifications. Here are some more things to look for:

  • Are these school’s computers, that maybe have a software blocking the interaction?
  • Have we tried Force Reinstalling, as @Hollisms suggests?
  • Which resolution are the screens working at? Does it have 100% zoom?

Yes, I have done this 3 times, and it took a long time to do so, and did nothing. I’m not quite sure, but I’m trying to tinker currently.

Yes, these are school computers, and that was my other idea, but would that actually not allow me to click anything? Like, I can run the program, it opens, but I can’t do anything in the window. It acts as though it were unresponsive, but it isn’t.

Anti-viruses and blocking software can work in mysterious ways :joy: However, I think it would be worth checking if they are actually the ones responsible of the issue. Would it be possible for you to ask school’s IT to make a test running the DS without their locks?

I’d like to say yes, but I’m not completely sure. Worth a shot, right?

I think it’s worth it. You can also test with a non-school computer, to validate or reject the theory :stuck_out_tongue:

Heyyyyyy, what do you know? I just so happened to have a school computer without blocks and it works. Thank you!

Not a problem @Team6732! The best of luck with Desination: Deep Space!
