What is FIRST got cities to bid on the national competition by having them offer to pay for parts of it like the tents or transportation or something along those lines. IT would save a lot of teams a lot of money, and the cities would want a lot of people to come so all the teams could come. Its just an idea, i would apprecitate your thoughts on this. Please reply.

I suppose the real question with this is what incentive would the cities have for giving money to the FIRST national competition? We aren’t large enough to provide a lot of tourist income or media attention.

I think a sponsorship for the sites are in order. For each tent or field you can put a sign; “Company X proudly presents Einstein Stage” and so on. Even in Disney they have that… Fed Ex sponsors Spaceship Earth! Kodak sponsors a ride,I forget which one, there are more but I don’t remember them off hand.
I’m pretty sure Kodak Sponsors “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience”
Disney puts on all of nationals, its field, entertainment, food, etc. That was the $75 for.
Your registration would still remain the same. The registration is mainly for employees of first, travel, medals, etc.
Plus it would be a big slap at Disney, if we put it out to bid, and quite frankly FIRST is not popular to the point that cities would bid any serious cash for a national competition.
Cities compete to bring events to their area because they bring in money. FIRST does not bring in all that much money. Hotel rooms and meals but not as much as other events. If we brought in a lot of money than Disney would be giving us an even bigger break than they do now. And lots of you complain about that not being enough.
